Yep fake this photo should have the porsche tiger on that flat bed. Note the Panther with the Panzer IV turret in the background that was real. I forget the unit in question but I think that photo was taken in Poland.

As for the kits I have read tat if anyone was interested in building an early Tiger II prototype then the P2 turret in this kit is the one to use. The turret in the kit is fully detailed inside and even has a liner to simulate the armoue tickness. Ammo racks floor and traverse gear, the whole shooting match.

Terry.

The Porsche Type-180 design [Designated VK 45.02(P)] was based on the earlier VK 45.02(P) design but mounting the 8.8cm L/71 gun on a much modified hull. Two versions were proposed, with turrets to the front (Vorne), or to the rear (Hinten), however only the former was proceeded with, and the construction of three prototypes was underway by February 1943. The rear turreted Hinten never progressed beyond the blueprint stage.

The turret and guns were designed by Krupp, the distinctively shaped ‘P2-Turm’ turrets which were designed for these vehicles have since been called ‘Porsche’ turrets. As production of these had already started the first 50 King Tigers were fitted with these.

Unfortunately the large armored ‘lip’ surrounding the turret ring on the Type-180 was not a feature of the Henschel design and resulted in a major shot trap below the mantlet. All later production King Tiger vehicles used the H3-Turm turret, commonly know as the ‘Henschell’ turret. It seems that one of the Porsche Type-180 vehicles may have been in operation since a Porsche Tiger with an 8.8cm L/71 gun is listed as part of the Panzer Kompanie Kummersdorf on March 1945.

Virtually all operational Tiger II tanks, and prototypes were used at the end of the war.

This (according to the date of the picture) appears to be a photoshopped Vorne example on a flatcar with the turret turned toward the rear of the tank.

I've been accumulating information on the Porsche version since it will be my next project.

Interesting. I can usually locate source photos on nearly anything, and I recall seeing a dozen frames worth of footage on this beast from a biography of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche. Nada. No original stills. Though I almost got fooled by this fake:

And look at the long exhaust pipes ! Dont step out of the rear turret hatch either . Is this thing doing a wheel stand ? LOL . Probably easily accomplished with the turret on the rear .Wouldnt be worth a dang climbing a steep grade .

This model is 1/72nd scale and was scratch built by Calum Melrose .

It was one of the designs Porsche came up with during the development of the Tiger II.  No prototypes were ever built of it.

One of the unsuccessful designs put forward for the KT. One design with turret at rear (hintern) and one at front (vorn). Don't think it was ever produced, only drawings, but not 100% sure.
