DML #3819 1/35 PE German Sternantenna assembly instructions
Posted by Bookemdanno on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 6:49 PM

Hi Folks,

I just bought two sets of these detail parts on ebay and they didn't come with assembly instructions. For the most part these anntenae are straight forward but they contain what appear to be tips for each arm of the antenna and I would like to make sure I understand how they are to be used. The drawings I have of these don't have the required detail to make sure.

Also - I plan on using one of these on my early Jagdpanther and for the Panthers these antennae were mounted on a steel cannister on the engine deck. Doe anyone know if there are any makers of this detail part?

Thanx!

Dan

Hi Greg,

I already tried it and they said that since the parts are discontinued they no longer have access to the instruction sheets. In my opinion sounds lame but if they were selling the parts in a license agreement it would make sense. So hopefully someone here may be able to help.

Thanx again,

Dan

Armourscale does a German antenna set which inbcludes the base i think you are aftre. But i always thought these were porcelian.

I have a couple of dragon kits which include a Sternantenna. Not sure if they will go together the same as yours, but if it will help i can scan the instructions and mail them to you.

Hi again Bish. Thanx for the great link to the armorscale site. I think I'll be ordering on of these kits.

Regarding the mount for the Sternantenna, yes - the antenna was mounted to a porcelain fitting which was then surrounded by a steel cylinder for protection. Perhaps I should have been more descriptive of the part....

I'd like to get a copy of the instructions you have. However, I haven't been able to send a private message to members. Can you tell me how?

Thanx again,

Dan

Hi Melchior,

The antenna kit I refer to is #3819-07 which to the best of my knowledge is a stand alone kit that was offered a while ago.

I would love to get a copy of your instructions but don't want to post it in a thread. As I stated to Bish if you know how I can do this let me know.

Thanx again,

Dan

Dan, i checked the instructions i have. Two of the kits, both Tigers, have plastic star antenna. But a 251 kit has the PE one. But its a pretty basic assembaly, with just the star section being placed on top of the antenna. There don't appear to be tips on the end of the arms, and i can't say i have seen this on photos of the real things. Are these tips seperate items that have to be attached to the longer arms.

I can scan the instructions later to send to you but there really isn't much to show.

I have also brough the Armourscale set home, so i will send you a pic of that so you can see what you get.

section... i' ve forgotten to state where you can see photos of those extraordinary brass made antennas of Schatton Modellbau.

look here:

http://www.panzerbaer.de/models/35_ncm_pzkfw_iv_w1466-a.htm

scroll down to all photos ! You will see 2,0m antenna and a test (!) mounting of Sternantenne D (just not bend into right form)

Hi!

Just a comment in regards the types of sternantenna that were used and the head-configuration:

There were at least two six-pole configurations in use: the conical form generally seen as a styrene kit piece in some Dragon kits and also as nicely done in the Tasca 1/35 Pz.II L "Luchs" kits using a PE part and a conical form - and seen in some photos of later-war vehicles -, and the "flat" form as seen in that pic posted by Melchior from panzerbaer.de/...  So, that pic showing that flat head configuration is actually of a "good" configuration, and not one which is "just not bend into right form" (sic)!

The flat configuration is particularly well-documented mounted on ex-Italian AB 41 and AB 43 armored cars in German service - and portrayed in the Italeri and Tamiya kits of same as being folded down at the end of its "stab" or rod base.  I would post a war-time pic or 2 of these rigs as deployed here, save that I don't know how to post images these threads! Embarrassed So, if you Google the Italian AB 41 and / or AB 43 and look thru the available real photos, you can easily find examples showing the flat 6-pole head in "action"!

Both the conical and flat configurations utilized 6 rays attached to a central disk base in a manner which allowed the rays to be folded down in a bundle for packing in a metal, leather or cloth sleeve. Most of the PE pieces I've seen of these heads have a simple etched disk with extended flat rays which instructions say to bend upward at ca 45 degrees... There probably is no really good way to "trough" these flat rays to better represent their real nature, and the disk or central bits don't appear to show any real detail corresponding to what appears in some photos... I think adding a small hex-disk of thin styrene on top on the center to cover over the connection of rays to hub could help add dimension and at least imply the attachment of the rays to same-  but that's just my opine! (and what I've done with a couple of these on builds).  The PE bits are much closer to scale than are any styrene kit bits, so far as the slim profile of the rays is concerned.

Cheers!

Nice photos, thanks for posting those.

Most pics of these you see are on the back of vehciles, such as Tigers and Pantehrs, and of course they don't have that cord as they are permanitly out. But i am about to build a 251/6 with its antenna extended and those pics will be alot of help. Thnaks again.

Hi Bish,

I placed an order at Armorscale 2 weeks ago and I have not yet received and acknowledgement of the order. Any idea about what is up with them?
