Well, I took a few pics of my armor models. These are the only two I've built so far and I think they are easier than aircraft. The nature of the beast allows one to hide glitches easier and there aren't any damned canopies to deal with, These pics were made out at my farm a few years ago. Please excuse my crude attempt to create a cool diorama base for them. I threw the base together in about 10 minutes or so, and it was really just an experiment I guess. I did manage to get a few photos that weren't too bad. After I had taken about 5 pics the damned battery played out on the camera and I left the card table and base in the pasture and drove back to town to recharge. When I returned a couple hours later, some calves had f'ed it up and I had to start over, lol. Anyway, here we go:Tamiya Panther Pzkpfw. V Ausf. AItaleri M24 Chaffee light tankOn the Panther, I scratch-built the side-armor plates and mounting brackets, the tow cables, tarps, jack block, fire extinguisher, engine deck grilles, and a few other small details. The Chaffee has a scratch-built tow cable and tarp.

I like your work on the Panther, nice camo job,it does look like the chaffee got the drop on him

I agree. I really like the Panther - the light, 'restrained' weathering suits it well and that's an attractive cammo and good scratchbuilding of the Schurzen and tarps.
The Chaffee is nice too. Obviously a standard OD green isn't going to look anything special - you're moving onto the colour modulation schemes and pre shades etc to kick off a green paint job then but it turned out very well for a basic build.
Nice work

On the Bench - Dragon Pz. IV Ausf. G (L.A.H.)
Both builds look great Gary..... True the camo on the Panther makes it stand out,,, but both are done very well.
Mostly,,, thanks for sharing!

Enjoy the ride!
Nice pair of vehicles, beware the "dark side" of models (armor building) it can be addictive!

Lovely builds, i think you deffinatly have a future in Armour. Lovely work on the schurzen as well. I would be happy to produce kits like that now, lef alone as my first two kits.
I have to agree, i also find armour alot easier than aircraft.
One very very very minor point for future referance. The tank commanders Eagle should be on the left arm not right *** seeing as he is in an SS Panther
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
Great job on that Panther. That camo is super.

Cool looking models there Gary.
Terry.
Lucky you Gary
I'm glad you didn't leave the Panther and the Chaffee out in the pasture while you were gone.
With all those aerial cow mines it could have been Berlin and the Hürtgen rolled up together.........
and the victors would never have realized it!
Nice builds and excellant photos.
Thanks everybody! You guys are too kind. I appreciate your compliments and advice! Oh, those calves would've really laid waste to the tanks. No way was I leaving them out there, lol. A few years ago, with the encouragement of Mr. Rudy Kline at King's Hobby in Austin, I entered both these builds in an armor contest held at Camp Mabry there in Austin, Texas. Oh man, there were so many amazing models there! Tigers out the wazoo, and just about everything else. I was shocked when my tanks each won 3rd place in their respective divisions. I guess there is really such a thing as "beginner's luck". I have the Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog on my shelf, it's always been one of my favorite tanks and looks kinds "sporty" to me. Maybe I can get started on it soon, but I really am covered up with airplane kits! Thanks again for your generous comments!
Oh, btw, I want to plug the museum there at Camp Mabry. It is very nice and has a large armor collection outside and all sorts of neat stuff inside, including some huge dioramas. If you are in Austin, it is worth a visit.
Gary - Both models are very well done. A couple of notes....
US taillights have a red upper on the left and a black upper on the right. This is true from WWII thru the early 60s
The M2 machine gun would be a steel or parkerized color with wood handles and wood charging handle. Late WWII and on they became black.
It is hard to tell by the angle if you have rubber on the outside of the road wheels.
Very nice work....keep it coming

Nice work on your first armor models Gary. I really like the camo job on the Panther. The last picture reminds me of a line from Kelly's Heroes: "A mark V, and we got 'em by the a$$"
I agree that Rudy and the guys at King's Hobby are so extremely helpful and knowledgable - I try to give them all of my business. What a great shop.
Cheers,
Jeff
