DML Jagdpanzer IV (6397) schurzen
Posted by dogzilla17 on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 11:41 AM

Hello all -- I'm just about to launch into this kit . I saw Armorscale 1:35 Side Skirts for Jagdpanzer IV, #P35-031  on sale on ebay -- this kit seems awesome  except schurzen is molded in one piece -- can anyone comment if the Armorscale product is compatible ?                    Much Thanks ,Dog

That is a shame that they did that with the schurzen. It doesn't seem like it would have been a big deal to mold it separately. You could try to carefully cut it apart.

Thanks guys -- I acually emailed Armorscale to get their take on it and wil let you know --

I may just plan to leave it off and try the surgery tigerman suggested -- nothing lost if I botch it!

Thanks again tigerman -- I somewhat remember performing the same surgery on the old Tamiya Brumbar schurzen (a LONG time ago) which I'm sure you recall were quite thick-

I'll keep you posted --

Hello All -- I did order the Armorscale product (P35-031)-- I should have noted Improvised SideSkirts for Jagdpanzer IV-

These are actually bolted directly to the vehicle, ie no 'hooks' -note these plates are folded horizontally to acheve the proper spacing w/the vehicle  - below seems to be the only example I could find online and I believe it may be a L48 - I dont think this was widespread practice, so I'm hesitant to proceed with these (my Jagdpanzer does not have zimmerit)   also this technique does not seem to me to work stucturally , skirts are attached using 2 bolts per skirt (bracket bolts are empty holes)

Eager to finish this so I may just 'punt' and cut apart & usethe kit supplied schurzen - any comments welcome !

Regards,

Dog

Never seen that done to the skirts before. I do think it might be the L/39, because I don't see a muzzle brake at the end. The front two roadwheels not being steel-stamped would suggest a L/39 or L/48.

That's a very unusual picture!  Very nice find!

Here's more evidence to squash the myth that schurzen were emplaced to defeat hollow charge weapons rather than the actuality of being protection against anti-tank rifle rounds.
