It's not a Sherman, but.....

Heres a few pics of my M88a2 Hercules. Its the Afv Club kit, and Legends conversion set.  This was my fist try at building a multi-media kit, but after yrs of reading Finescale..figured I could pull it off. I replaced the lousy 50 cal w/ a RB barrel and PE set, and added a few small chains from the wife on the smoke dischargers. I have always read about "tricks" to model the periscopes, so I used the confetti foil for the anti-laser coating. Hope ya'all like it

Nice work, good enough for the thread title to say what it is... not what it isn't... Wink

How did you do the vision blocks & if commercially available, where from?

It came out very nice.  Good job on it.  I too have the Legend conversion set for this.  It looked like a good set in the box and an even better set once built.

http://thmg.photobucket.com/albums/v738/LadyFire/Smileys/th_supersignthumbup.gif  No, it isn't a Sherman but your work

stands very strongly on its own merits.

This is just really nice. You have good abilities.

The mini-turret with the .50 is an eye catcher.

Extremely competent job all around and very

realistically worn/weathered.

I'd gladly  do another kit in the future, it was a great build!  I really want to attempt the  British recovery tank...heard it called a Rhino,

The vision blcks were done w/ craft store party confetti, trimmed to a tiny rectangle, and epoxy'd . I chose the violet front and red sides to appear to color shift....some pics show them a greenish tint though.

I tried some paint from Alcad for the blocks, armoured glass, but wasn't happy w/ the results.

I'd originally planned it lifting a M1 Abrams pack, but forgt to order it..oops!

Thanks everyone for the positive comments, it makes it all worth the build!

Thanks!!  The build was probably my most fun, and complex kit ever. The kit isn't really hard, just a ton of pieces, and require patience....walking away numerous times!!

I really wish I'd read more about using the hairspray method before the finish coat, the spade really needs more wear.  I tried the sponge chipping method used on the rest of the 88 , but it looked wrong..just didn't have the "layered" look I wanted. guess its just nit-picking!
