need a little help guys , planning a dio of all 5 superpowers of ww II, need help trying to locate the light tanks for the time. also waht scale do u like the best 1/74 or 1/48. thanks
Of the two scales you list, 1/74 does not exist as a tank model scale, perhaps you mean 1/72 or 1/76 scale? There are several light tanks available in both scales. It all depends on which scale you chose and what quality kit. Most of the light tanks in 1/72-1/76 are 30+ years old.
1/48 scale is very limited in range. I believe there is a single WW2 light tank model kit in this scale currently available in injection plastic, the Tamiya Panzer II.
Here are the current light tank kits:
Italeri Panzer I: http://www.onthewaymodels.com/reviews/Italeri/Pz1Bprev.htmMirage makes a fairly comprehensive line of M3 Stuart tanks: http://www.mirage-hobby.com.pl/Dragon makes the Type 95 Ha-Go light tank http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=DR60428JB Models makes a really neat Vickers light tank, but it is 1/76: http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=JB1009And UM makes the Soviet T-70 & T-80 light tanks: http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=UM0307http://www.greatmodels.com/~smartcart/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=UM0306

For armor, I don't build anything but 1/35th, but that's not the point. Scales are a personal choice. Build in the scale you like.
And if I may point out that a light tank in 72/76 scale is going to be tiny. Which would be good as you're doing a collection but I find it hard to work with something that small.
There are kits in 1/35th from Academy, AFV Club, and several older kits from Tamiya of the US M3/M5 Staurt light tank. I'm not sure if there is anything in 1/72-76 and 1/48 or not.
The M24 Chaffee light tank has an older 1/35th model from Italeri and one in 1/76th from Revell/Germany.
If you're doing a large collection Roco used to do a series of tanks and other military hardware in 1/87th (HO railroad scale) but after a quick websearch it looks like much of the models are out-of-production now.
