What are you preferred chipping methods?

In response to my last build, I was wondering what your favorite methods for chipping are. Photos would be appreciated if possible.

Thanks.

Hey tigerman, my long lost model buddy from across the way.  For superficial chipping and scrathes I always use Vallejo German Camo Black Brown with a 10/0 brush.  But I have to say, I have used the hairspray method on my recent build and was pleased.

Cheers

Hey Rob, good to see you again bud. How's the family? The kids must be getting a bit bigger and thus freeing up more time for modeling.

Good to know the color. My LHS does sell some Vallejo paints.

Now when you say the hairspray method, are you talking major weathering like an Afrika Korps or winter scheme?

depends....close to the green I always use the wedge......better control, now if my lie is.......oh wait....Whistling

prisma color pencil...now since I do mostly planes I use the silver pencil....it can be sharpened to a nice point to follow panel lines....can be scratched off and used a dust almost like a pastel....I havent tried it on armour but a dark grey pencil night work the same...also you can blend colors.

whats the hairspray method....Im getting an interest in armor lately and need to pick up some tips..

I've not tried to do the hairspray for chipping though that does sound good. I've only tried it with worn whitewash on my T34/76. Not much chipping here.

On my T34/85 I did a bit more with chipping. I first painted a lighter color green in spots. After that I went over and near some of the spots with a dark red color, I think it was a Citadel games color called scab red. Then over and near that a very dark brown, again games paint called charred brown mixed very slightly with a steel color. The tow cables and lower front show this fairly well:

The Panzer IV/70 I did for the GB was done pretty much the same way for the chipping.

Using the sponge method is useful too though I think I got a bit carried away on my 234/1:
