Armor Finish Coats
Posted by Texas Ken on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 9:38 PM

I need some advice on the ordering of applying the finish coat on armor to aid in the assembly of a detailed and accurate model. The main things are: 1) is it usual to apply, say, the camo paint to the lower hull before assembling the bogies, etc onto the lower hull, 2) are the bogies usually assembled onto the hull and then the entire lower hull is painted (wouldn't that cause shadowing), 3) do you put the assembled upper hull onto the lower before painting? These are the basic things I'd like to know before beginning. Appreciate the help. It has been a long time since I did any armor.

What's your subject of choice Ken? Usually the lower hull didn't have any camo, that is the bogies. Now on many panthers, tigers the wheels were cammoed up and covered most of the lower surface. Does this hopefully answer your question? Sorry if I'm guessing.

Sorry,

Thanks for trying. Yes it is German armor, a Tiger I. Mostly I'm asking about finishing order as I build. What is necessary to paint prior to assembly and what can wait till after things are put together.

Thanks,

Ken

That's entirely your personal choice.
