Well Shellback, I went with Tamiya Gun Metal in the nore and boy did that help! Plus I touched up some missed spots on the inner face of the idler wheels that the pics here showed I had missed weathering with pigments. I took the improved kit to our AMPS chapter meeting tonite and volunteered it as a subject for a judging class being given. It got pretty good marks overall. 9.5 out of a possible 10 in the intermediate catagory.

YesI agree , usually if it looks like it could happen it  will happen . I'm pretty sure you'll like the results when you paint the inside of the barrel flat black .Beer

Exactly why I did not try to do so at an earlier stage... was afraid I would screw it up...Surprise

Well that sounds much simpler than drilling deeper into the barrel...Hmm Thanks for the idea!

I read above that you used enamels so try using a flat back acrylic inside and at the back . Apply with a small brush . Any excess paint that gets on the outside of the barrel should clean off without damage to the outside color .

Hope i helped . Beer

You did a great build on this old kit . I tried building it myself and gave up on it . Your weathering looks fine . Just one thing that stands out is that the aluminum color inside of the barrel stands out in the full frontal view  .

Looks very good, weathering also looks appropriate.

Gotta love those older kits!

Great work!

Being the 'forgoten' war and all, I didn't know Centurions were used in Korea..

Thanks guys, this was an enjoyable build.

POLB, yes the first of many wars that Centurions fought in was Korea.

Tigerman, I really enjoyed doing the mods to this kit. It was an fun learning experience.

I like that dusty look you applied to her Stik. Very nice to upgrade an older kit such as you did.

Love it!  Centurions were awesome.  You should do an Israeli one now.

Tamiya 1/35 Centurion Mk.3 (many pics)

I built this kit for the 60th Anniversary Korean War GB I am running. It is the 1970s vintage Tamiya kit with some mods I made. I replaced the kit single piece tracks with AFV Club indy links- HUGE improvement in appearance- I only needed to file the sprocket teeth a bit to get the links to fit properly. The kit main gun tube was replaced with an aluminum AM barrel by Barrel Depot. That barrel had lots of machining marks left on it in the package so it took quite a bit of cleanup work. Good thing I got it for cheap at an AMPS meetingWink I modified the turret by adding casting texture using liquid cement and stiff nylon brushes. I also added scratch built wiring and connection points for the smoke grenade launchers and a the water can rack on the back of the turret. I replaced the kits' jerry can with one from my spares bins. I used Medium Bronze Green from XtraColour enamels for the base color. Decals are from the kit for UK 29th Brigade, 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars in Korea during Winter 1950/1951. Weathering is airbrushed and a mix of Mig pigments.
