Has this kit become the Holy Grail in 1/35?

Its certainly not my Holy Grail, especially as tamiya do a Tiger in the same markings.

For me, its the CH 251/23, but i wouldn't pay that much for it.

I would guess perhaps for the collector but, for the builder there are plenty of kits with all the AM to turn any kit into a winner on the market.

For me the holy grail is Verlinden's 1/35 LVT-1.

Tigerman...yes, I believe so....but if it is at $202 and stays there, the draw may be going down.  It has been consistently going for over $300.  Economy, lack-of-interest...got me.  Will see if that number holds up.  I came close to getting one when they were released for about $50....I blew it by not following up.  But I would have probably built it...thus decreasing its value...LoL...

Those early Dragon Tigers seem to get a lot of money on the secondary market. As far as detail and accuracy, the Tamiya Afrika Tiger can't compare to the more recent Dragon Tiger. The Tamiya kit will build nicely and easily, but the Dragon kit will be spot on with all the bells and whistles.

...maybe for now, but so was the "Initial Tiger - Leningrad"----that was until Dragon re-popped it just recently.  I suspect that's why Ebay is flooded with them right now...

Of course, the DAK was a Cyberhobby boxing so maybe they will never be re-boxed again...

Yikes, You could buy what, 4 tigers for about that much? I think I'd go that route anyway...

I don't know about Holy Grail but I have seen a number of them in this price range at shows and such. As y'all pointed out it was a Cyber Hobby release and a short run at that. Some of CH new releases are more than 80 bucks so yeah, it stands to reason that it could get this high or higher... Now, would I buy one? Nope... Not that interested in the early Tiger to pay out that much for it...

The last Tiger kit that became "hot" was that Dragon initial 3 in 1 Tiger. I seem to recall getting one at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon and trading it off for at least triple value what the kit cost new.

There's just something about those early Tigers.

LoL....there would be no "splainin ta do" in my house....but I can run faster than her. 

I still have a couple of the 3-in-1 kits in the stash.  I check every once in a while as to their going value, but I will build them someday...not interested in turning a profit.  No sense trading plastic for paper.

How many sprues in that kit are different than in the other DML/CH offerings?

I'm guessing people are paying that premium for only one or two...couldn't those be replicated by other means? Aftermarket? Resin? For way less than the extra 250 bucks?

It does have a number of differences. Don't quote me on this but I believe its set up to replicate a 501st tank which is somewhat different than other tigers besides the tropical gear. I suppose it would be possible to kit bash one using the DAK parts off the Tamiya kit and adding them to the much better detailed Dragon base kit... *shrugs*.... I'm sure it's possible.

You would think... Question is would it be cheaper to spend 250 bucks on the CH kit or a whole pile of AM stuff and donor kits... :)

Thats probably what i will end up doing. In fact, there are more 251 variants that you can't buy as kits than those you can, so thats a lot of conversions to build them all, the /23 will just be one more.

I guess it is the turret, the mud guards and the stencils.

And I also think that if you would combine # 6600 and # 6660 you would get all the parts that are required.
Less the stencils :)

But then again you would be able to build a second wagon that would be accurate, a nice bonus right?

At a third of the price.

I think the Tiger I itself is a little bit of a Holy Grail to Armor modelers.

Come on now - who has never tried building one?
