While I know I'm not much of a presence here at FSM, I was there at the AK table for the two days. You'll recognize me Dupes, we go to the same barber I believe.

I also recall stopping you from making a purchase you really didn't need, much to the happiness of Mia. Wink

Here's a pic of me and Rob at the booth.

WOW... now this is a blast from the past.  Great to here form you.  Too bad about now being able to make it to the show.  Would have been great to see you.  Make sure you post that web address when it's up and running.

Guys,

SMJmodeler here!  I had AMPS EAST on the calendar and I really hoped to go this year.   Work has continued to be lean and I just couldn't justify the expense.

My armor builds have ground to a halt lately but I still have a few builds from awhile back that haven't seen the AMPS tables...

Redleg was right about the model railroad circuit.  I have even started a weathering business within the hobby and I am a VENDORConfused at a HUGE show they call "The BIG E" every January in Springfield, MA.  I will have a website up soon showing/ selling my work...Yes

My armor kits hold a sacred spot in the hobby closet and I won't dare part with any of them!  I'm sure the NEED to grunge-up a tank will hit me soon.  In the meantime my weathered railroad structures and rolling stock are satisfying the urge....

Good to see the regulars are doing the AMPS EAST gig'...I'll try again next year!

Lee, I was the guy next to your son for the raffle.  I over heard you talking to your son about what number you needed.  I think I let out a cheer when the number was called even before you guys did. That was very cool the that he won.  The look on his face was priceless.

Chazzer? Did I meet a Chazzer? Anyone got a real name?

"being an 8 year old at a model show ROCKS!"

Hah! No doubt! Looked like he cleaned up in free kits!

LeeB

p.s. Dupes - I checked out the link to your cycling page ... also ride a Serotta (an original Ottrott -- I am a former racer who spent some time working in a bike shop as a Serotta fitter so I got the frame and parts at cost! thank goodness!).  p.p.s. Bar Harbor/Acadia is one of my favorite places on earth!! even if many of the roads around seem to lack a decent shoulder to ride on!

Get out - a fellow Serotta junkie? Nice! That's funny, I just rode to Bar Harbor yesterday (Mia works there). It's true about the lack of shoulders, although there was an awful lot of paving that happened earlier this year to at least start to fix that problem (the president visited about a year ago...all of a sudden we have paving money...huh).

Ride the roads enough and you know where all the potholes are anyway. Wink

I attended with my family but my wife and oldest son were just along for the ride and the visit to the military museum.  The show was really for my youngest son, Kyle, who is 8.  Kyle won the last raffle of the day - an Iwata BCR airbrush!  He was through-the-roof happy.  The crowd gave him a big cheer!  He was also given a few freebies to go with some of the things he bought (to which he commented - "being an 8 year old at a model show ROCKS!").

Lee,

That was your son??!!  That was AWESOME when he won that airbrush. Definately a highlight of the whole weekend for me, seeing the way his whole face lit right up. I am sure he'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Regarding your 'dillema' of having two airbrushes, I'd say to hold onto them both for now. Once you have experimented with them, you'll have a better idea if one suits your needs better than the other, at which point you could sell it. Alternatively, you might find that the two brushes are suited to different things (for example, last year, I bought a Badger Patriot at the show. At the time, I had a Badger 150. Now I tend to use the new one for detail work, exclusively with acrylics. If I need to shoot enamels or some less precise work, I use the 150).

Thank you guys!  That's something I have to consider about doing a trip at the same time for my family to visit NYC.

Safe to say 2012 is out because National AMPS is coming to Auburn, Indiana and I already got some cash stashed somewhere that my wife can not find.  Whistling  Hope you are thinking about going... the armor museum where the event will be held is really great.

Andy - Misquitocon is usaully in the spring and is an IPMS full show....lot of wingy things, shps and yes....armor. Always a fun show. AMPS East is an armor only show so it is a bit smaller in size but about 200 models are entered....all armor. SOOO.....take your pick

Marc - I have not heard from our buddy Panzerguy since around Xmas. He was working a lot of hours and having a hard time modeling. As for SJM, I heard he moved to the model RR circuit.

It was great seeing all of you guys, It is becoming a ritual. I already marked the calendar for next year!!

Rounds Complete!!

Dupes - I was the guy who (wrongly) guessed you were wing-nut (but I did guess Mia correctly).

When he learned an airbrush company was at the show, he insisted we go so he (we actually) could learn how to airbrush.  I modelled when I was 6 or 7 thru about age 20.  30 years later, Grammpy buys Kyle a model for Christmas and next thing I know, I'm back to learning how to build models again (and really enjoying it). Just before Kyle won the Iwata, I secretly purchased a Badger 105 with an Aspire Elite compressor from the Badger booth (both seemed like as good a deal as I was ever going to find at just about 50% off retail price).  The airbrush and compressor were planned as a Christmas present for me .... I mean Kyle.  I snuck the equipment out of the room and past him by having the Badger guys claim I was helping them take stuff out to their car (it worked - he has no idea).

So we went from using brushes on Friday to owning 2 airbrushes and a compressor on Saturday.  Now I'm wondering if we should try to sell one of the brushes (and if so which one) and put the money towards a respirator/spray booth (either store bought or home made).  We have been using Tamiya acrylics and MM enamels (won 72 bottles for $45 + shipping on ebay - a few duplicate colors but all in all a great deal I think), and a touch of Mr. Color (which I think brushes the best of the 3).  Anyway, all opinions welcome regarding what to do with the airbrushes.

p.s. Dupes - I checked out the link to your cycling page ... also ride a Serotta (an original Ottrott -- I am a former racer who spent some time working in a bike shop as a Serotta fitter so I got the frame and parts at cost! thank goodness!).  p.p.s. Andy, AMPS East is in Danbury, CT.... about 1 1/2 hrs N of the city.  In NJ we have MosquitoCon in April in Wayne. 40 Mins to NYC.  This October, and likely for the last time, we are doing IMPS Region II, JerseyCon in Mt Laurel, about 1 hr 40 mins.  M-Con is by far the biggest of the 3.

Anthony... you were in stealth mode.  Didn't see you again after our chat.

Hey Andy,

I met Chazzer, and talked to him for awhile. Great guy, with lots of enthusiasm! I don't know if he bought kits from Boyd, but I know I sold him at least one....a KV-2 by Tamiya.

Chazzer (Scott) went too.  I believe he brought couple of kits from Boyd...

Hopefully one day I will attend... is it usually held in NJ?  My wife always wanted to visit NYC too so I can make it work.

So who attended AMPS East?
Posted by dupes on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 9:59 AM

This was the first year we weren't organized enough to set a time/place for a group photo at the show...I'm pretty bummed, because that's when I usually end up finally meeting other forum members face-to-face putting an actual person together with their forum avatar.

Here's a list of people I know were there - please add everyone I'm forgetting! (preferably with a mugshot) I know that this list is by no means complete.

Dupes (Marc)
BBrowniii (Boyd)
Nachtflieger (Nate)
Redleg12 (Mike)
Wing_nut (Marc)
AJLafleche (Al)
Scratchmod (Rob)
Moses (Rob)
JMart (James)

Notoriously absent were Panzerguy and SMJModeler...need to find out what's going on with those cats.
