Is that the Heavy Metal show? If it is, it's pretty cool. They use the modified Tiger with the T-34 running gear and dramatized actors. If not, it might be something I haven't seen.

Son of a gun you're right Tigerman:! that tiger does have a t34 running gear [:0] I am not sure there are many running tigers left in this world so they had to improvise ( although they might have chosen to use one of the rc tigers from the 1/16 group build )Big Smile [:D] the show still looks kool ! The one on the actual T-34 was great ! Getting a vcr tape on the way home tonight !Cool [8D]

I think it's probably more accurate to say that the T-34 was built up to resemble a Tiger I. The one in Kelly's Heroes and in Saving Ryan's Privates was similarly built. In fact, it could even be the same vehicle.

There are a handful of running Tiger II's around (two, I think -- one in Germany and one in France), but I don't know if any Tiger I's are still in running order.

Tigerman, I hope those guys are "dramatized actors," or they'd be a bunch of old geezers indeed! Wink [;)] The elite SS Geriatrics Battalion!

What I'd like to see is a Thunderbolt drop a bomb on top of a Tiger, or a Typhoon shoot a rocket into one's deck. Is that in the program on the mighty Tiger? Tongue [:P]

Larry: The good ole rocket attack is what took wittmann down supposedly , many say that he ( and his crew ) was done in by a firefly , but is almost proven that his tank took a hit from above , very devastating ! Luckily for the allies he was done in , that crew killed almost 200 pieces of military gear alone ,if I am not correct! Thank god there weren't too many of these guys manning them german tanks or we may have been saluting the nazi flag as of now !

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] LOLOLOL Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] Oh Larry, you're killing me here!!

Seems to me I read somewhere that there are no Tiger I's running. The recording they (Tamiya) did for the digitized sound for the RC 1/16 Tiger I was actually of one of the few running Tiger II's, which, of course, had almost the same engine in it.

I think I've read somewhere else (mind is like swiss cheese!!) that someone is restoring a Tiger I to full running condition. (And you think you have problems finding parts for a '62 Impalla!! lol )

I've been following the Tiger I rebuild they're doing at Bovington (in the uk):

http://www.tiger-tank.com/

Apparently it is now completed with a refurbished engine - can't wait to see it in the summer :)

Wow!: I would actually pay money to see that beast fire again or at the very least run ( they probably wouldn't allow them to restore the gun ) but it would be pretty kool if they did , just for blanks at least !Cool [8D] If you folks get the chance to videotape it running in the uk do so ... you would be a hero to Tiger fans everywhere !Big Smile [:D]Cool [8D]

Depends on who you believe! Guys in the units that supposedly killed him swear it was their Firefly tanks that did him in (conflictng units). This is what is usually cited in English-language sources. An observer of the actual destroyed tank apparently said there were no penetrations of the vehicle/turret front or sides, but a nasty hole blown in the deck.

Sounds like an English rocket did in the tank. Typhoons reported engaging a unit of tanks in that very area on that very day.

But maybe it was the Fireflies after all (tips hat to Captain_Caveman from previous debate). It's all lost in the mists of time. Short answer: despite this guy's peskiness on the Eastern Front for years, WE GOT HIM IN A FEW WEEKS! HOO HAA! I'm sure he was good, but remember that awards are not always doled out purely on merit, particularly in a totalitarian dictatorship like Hitler's Germany. Heck, Hitler was tossing the things from the balcony by the end!

Like Bids mentioned... I think the Bovington Tiger I is now in running condition.... It would sure be something to see and hear it. Maybe someone will make a video of it and post it to the net. Smile [:)]

I think there is a guy who is actually looking into reproducing Tigers (possibly on a real limited basis.... sort of like how they are reproducing Me262's).... I might be mistaken but I think he borrowed one from the US to study... in exchange they promise to pay for the shipping of the Tiger I back to Aberdeen I guess.

We're already making arrangements to go and see the Tiger at Bovington, on a day when they have the thing running - I'll take my videocam and upload some avi's for you lot :) Problem is, it won't be until May/June time - really looking forward to it - although the missus isn't quite so keen :)
