Hobby Craft BMP-1?
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Friday, January 30, 2004 1:15 AM
Anyone built the hobby craft BMP-1? The local Hobby Lobby has one left. I have heard one negative comment in the forumes regarding it but since there is a sale on on it just might be worth my time. [Ive bought about 5 kits in the past week!]

A kit-buying frenzy!
I know it's the Trumpeter kit (says so right on the box!), but I don't know how good that kit is. Like you, I've heard it's best avoided.
But heck, if it's cheap, why not?
In my own buying frenzy last week, I picked up Zvezda's BMP-1 AND 2!

If you get the Hobby Craft (Trumpeter) BMP-1, please let us know what you think of it.

BLAH!!!! RUN AWAY!!

That's what I think! It goes together real quick but is not very accurate. The road wheels are secured with philips head screws and do not have a cover to hide them behind. That was my biggest gripe about the kit.

Its cheap all the way around! And I'm going to try using it as a dedstroyed vehicle in a diorama. probably in a fighting position to try and hide the road wheels.

HC russian vehicles quality is horrible, the fit is bad, a lot of parts are way to thick for the scale, lots of flash, etc, I built the T-72 and T-69 and let me tell you that they gave me planty of headaches

Well I'm glad i left THAT one alone!lLOL
I had picked up a The Illustrated Directory of Modern Weapons at a used book store and saw this vehicle. Seemed like it would be an interesting vehicle, esp being that it is a true amphibious infantry vehicle and doesn't require flotation screens like the Bradley.

Hang on a sec...is it Svezda, or Zvezda? I'm at work, and don't have the kits nearby...
I think it may be Svezda.
At any rate, as mentioned elsewhere, even that kit is a rebox. It's the Dragon kit, which, although not without its own problems, has gotta be better than the Trumpeter/Hobby Craft kit.
I'll be building my BMP-1 and BMP-2 pretty soon, probably simultaneously. Maybe we should all get a Bimp Build going?

Well I'd have to find one first!LOL This one was the only one I had ever seen in my area. I've bought at least ten kits in the last week! Not just armor but mechs as well! Picked up the Quad gun trasctor today because the Hobby Lobby 1/2 sale ends Saturday. that's why I was looking at the Hobby Craft kits for bulk purchasing purposes!

I'm at work as well. Was going to start on my Bradley here in the office but I wasted to much time on hte net. I'll have to start when i get home. I get off in about 30 more mins...

Nice having a job where you can model!

I'm home now. It's Zvezda, with a Z.
That was driving me crazy!

Well i can at least assemble a kit in the office. The more detailed work must be done at home. I'm currently assigned to the poice precinct downtown. No one comes down to the office on third shift but other officers. It helps to pass the boredom and calm my nerves!
