Build is a Dragon (reboxed Revell) 2003 Marine Abrams. Not sure about the extra packs yet. I've painted them green as I wasn't 100% sureif they would have had "Desert" pack issued to tank crews, if any one can let me know please do. Everyone else happy to hear where I can improve

Thanks

Phil

Nice!  The tank looks great.  The packs are supposed to be green, your color looks reasonable.  (After time in the sun, what is exact anyway?)  Some of the bags look a little shiny, but that could be a trick of te light.  Beautiful job on the Abrams!

Your USMC Hog looks pretty good.  Good job overall.

Here are a few pointers to make it better and more accurate.

First, a few things Dragon got wrong.  They missed the boat on the rear tow pintle.  It should be a tow pintle, not a block with a hole.  Not much to do except replace it with a pintle from something else.

They also messed up the Bustle Rack Extension (BRE).  The type in the kit was not used by the USMC, but by the US Army's 3rd ID, 2 BDE.  They were constructed in Kuwait for PrePo vehicles stored there and drawn by 3ID.  The USMC BRE is a folding type that was later adopted by the Army as well.  It can be found in the later Dragon M1A2 SEP kit, Academy's M1A1 USMC 2003 kit, and by AM PE companies.  If you add plastic water or fuel cans in racks on both ends, it will look closer to the USMC type.

USMC Folding BRE

Next, the center caps on the roadwheels should be black.  They are actually clear plastic with gear oil inside.  This allows a quick visual check of the level of the oil.  The best way to represent them is with gloss black and the center bolt the color of the hull, sand in this case.

On the stowage, the spare road wheels should be turned around.  They are secured to the grunt rails using a spare center guide tooth.

The ammo cans should still be green, with sand holders.  They are replaceble ammo cans in holders.

Lastly, the water and MRE boxes on the front part of the turret need to be removed.  They would not stay in place without straps and they would block the vision ports of the crew in those positions.

A good job overall.  A few tweaks and it will be great.

Nice job overall....my other friends have all ready given you a bunch of advice so here is just one point,..... try using a circle template for painting the roadwheels. It will keep the look even wheel to wheel.

Keep on building, looking good

Overall it is a nice interpretation of the Abrams tank. You did many things well.

A couple of things I see in addition to what was mentioned earlier are the commander's .50 cal machine gun is crooked. You have it angled to the right. The machine gun mount does not pivot horizontally; the entire cupola rotates 360 degrees and the machine gun should be pointed straight forward in relation to the commander's hatch.

Secondly, the vehicle exhaust grills; only the center one should have a burnt, rusty look. The right and left ones are for engine and transmission oil coolers. They take on a dusty appearance from the environment. Sometimes the tanks arrive with all three grills painted black as well.

You've done a good job, it's been some time since I finished one of the Dragon kits.

Thanks all for the comments and ideas. I'll get it updated and then on to the next one in my stash. I have another Abrams, one with the Mine plough so I'll keep in mind the info for that one too.

Again thanks to all

Phil

My main is a human tankadin on Stormrage so I recognize the pose. Been about a month since I've played though. I totally missed brewfest. My favorite toon is a dwarf assasination rogue (chose the spec randomly) I made just to be an engineer to make the Mekgineer's Chopper. I'm the worst rogue in WoW, but am living proof anyone can level a rogue to 85! Just don't try to queue for an instance as a rogue, it takes forever.
