Clearcoat over Tamiya TS-spray?
Posted by Monzon on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 3:00 PM

Hi!

This is my first post in the forum, so hello everyone!

I have a question regarding clearcoat and what I should use. I've just painted my Tiger I with Tamiya TS spray and now I want to apply a layer of clearcoat before I weather the model. I have a spray can with Humbrol gloss varnish for acrylic paintsbut I'm not sure I can use it over the Tamiya spray? Do you have any suggestions?

I had also planned to paint the details on the Tiger with Vallejo acrylics and wondering if I should do it before or after I put on the clearcoat.

Thanks for your help!

Monzon;

Hello and welcome.

Personally after the initial coat of paint (and any camo pattern) with acrylics I spray the model down with Future from Johnson.  It gives a super high gloss finish.  This enables better decal adhesion and placement and when weathering with oils will not come off.  You can get all you decals, dot filtering, pin washes done with no damage to the underlying coat.  When done you can then spray on a satin or flat finish.

Hope this helps
