I'd like to see and purchase plastic (IM) CUCVs as well. The reason there aren't any now is because they don't mount weapons and are in any contemporary 'action', ie: not popular enough cost of production

I prefer the Meng one over the Mig resin one. It is easier to work with since it is plastic, better detailed with a full frame and underside, and much, much cheaper. Why anyone would get one of Mig's now is beyond my reasoning.

i think mis usa recently released another technical. this time its libyan and looks pretty cool. its around 140.00 though. so its on my lottory win list.
I always dig those PerthMilMod kit reviews. Thanks for the link. I bought the kit and it's on the way
Perth Military Modeling Site (PMMS) now has a full review of the Meng SF Technical truck, which includes good pics of all the parts, including the figure. The figure looks pretty good for plastic. The weapons are really nice too. It looks like another one to get.
Thanks for the heads up on the video. The figure was blurry but I'm def going to get this kit
Armorama has a video preview of the kit up. As noted, it is the same as the prior truck, with a new sprue for the gear and figure. The figure looks pretty good, about on par with Dragon n0n-Gen 2 figures. The weapons look great. Looks like another one to get.
.........My experience is figures, included with 1/35th scale vehicle kits, tend to be soft on detail or the proportions are off. Even the crew figures in Academy M1151 kit I'm working on now seem to be designed as an afterthought. I would be very surprised if Meng"s second effort would be well done.
That second MENG truck kit looks interesting. I'll have to get that one too.
I bought the first one and the figure included in that kit is not high quality detail. If the second release kit includes a standing figure, it might look like the old Testors figures. However, the figure subject is unique for 1/35
The truck is a mid-90s Toyota Hilux. Like I said, it is still to be seen what the figure looks like. Once this gets out to the masses, all will be revealed.
The first release with the ZPU is pretty nice. In it's instructions it shows a few more versions of the Toyota and a Private Military Contractor Ford F150/250 crew cab guntruck that looks nice too. Hopefully they will come up with these too.
.............According to the box the kit does contain a figure along with the pictured accessories and pre painted photo etched parts. The kit reminds me of a pricey Mig Products resin US special forces truck from a few years back with a bed area loaded with supplies and a roof mounted satellite antenna................According to a brief description in the instructions for the anti aircraft version, posted on line, the kit represents the type of Toyota, Nissan and Ford (?) trucks used in many parts of the world for civilian and military purposes. There are illustrations of different military/technical versions. It isn't clear if those are all other planned releases with different accessories..
Yup, the next Meng release is the same pickup as their previous release, but with a new accessory sprue that contains the gear and weapons. No one has been able to confirm if it comes with the figure though.
Here is the new gear sprue.
I'm still waiting to see what else comes with it.
.............Along with the Toyota (?) pickup with the ZPU anti aircraft gun Meng is also releasing another version with a machine gun, mounted on the roll bar, and a load of supplies; water and fuel Jerry cans, bags, storage boxes and other items. The box illustration suggests the kit also contains a figure (special forces? irregular?). It could certainly could be used as a technical vehicle. It can also be used as a special forces truck, civilian vehicle or, if you have the old VLS war correspondents figures from the early nineties, a press truck.
Meng's crew cab pick-up truck is perfect and the only one in 1/35 in plastic. It goes for about $32 shipped.
You will find that you have to create a profile on all online hobby supplier sites. It is not a problem, but a necessity so they know who you are, where to send the model, and how you will pay for it. I have ordered a bunch of stuff from online suppliers and have never had any issues.
A change of weapon might be order but here's a good start.
