Started yahoo group for WWII armor images/movies
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 30, 2004 9:55 PM
Hi, just started a yahoo group for images and movies I'll be creating of WWII armor in footage or stills made from footage.

Here's the url:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/armorimageswwii/

Join and you can access the FILES area. In the FILES area you will find mpegs. Right now, there's a T-34 mpeg, a Pz38(t) mpeg, and two Tiger I mpegs. They are small, because the memory allotted is limited. I'll be adding lots more mpegs, and loads of images will go into the PHOTOS area (nothing there now).

I will emphasize stuff od interest to modelers -- esp, close-ups of tanks.

Hope this is entertaining/useful. Don't ask me technival questions! Yer on yer own! Tongue [:P]

Hi Larry, i just checked out the site. Thanks for the heads up, but i guess i am not sure what a yahoo group is. (please forgive my ignorance). what is the benefit of a yahoo group over a regular web site? And just out of curiosity, what is the size limit of the site?

The yahoo group gives you free storage space that others can access regularly. If I put up files that were 1 meg large on a free webhost like tripod, after two people accessed it, that would blow the bandwidth allowed and no one else would be able to access it for hours.

You have have 20 meg worth of files (movies, etc) and a whole mess of photos (something like 40meg).

Yahoo groups are often set up for mailing lists, but you don't have to use them just for that purpose. If you're still interested, just go into any Yahoo group and poke around a little.

Others are set up to share photos. I know somone who has an invitation only yahoo group for photos of his kids. No one can get in unless he invites them. His family and friends are members. He just puts the photos there and can just send out a special message from the group to all members that he's added more photos. They are very versatile.

The movies I have there now are:

1) Tiger I traversing turret
2) Panzer 38(t) climbing slope
3) T-34 drive by
4) close-up Tiger I drive-by

I'll add more movies, and lots of images, over the next few days/weeks.

Added the first photo album, with nine images of fuel truck of a German armored unit bringing up jerry cans and stacking them near a fuel car on a train, filling the jerry cans with fuel, putting them on the trucks, and driving them away.

I'll be adding more movies, of Tigers, over the next day or two.

Look at them in number order, not in thumbnail order. Smile [:)]
