Captured tank usage

TL: if you apply some logic, you'll consider the lack of spares and ammo for older vehicles (Matilda, M3 Mediums).  If actively engaged on a front, (e.g. Soviet T-34s) where you can expect ammo and more recovered vehicles, obviously these will be used longer.

There are several books by schiffer re: captured vehicles by the Germans.

Matilda's and Grants were only used North Africa which capitulated in 43.  But Matilda's were in France in 1940's defeat so they could have been reutilized but there wouldn't have been much ammo and spares available by 1944.  There were French tanks that were used against the Allies.

This is not true. Matildas were used in France in 1940 (lost as the UK evacuated at Dunkirk) and were Lend-Leased to Russia as well.

Likewise Grants were used in Burma and the M3 Lee was Lend-Leased to Russia too. Mirage makes several M3 kits in Soviet Lend-Lease markings.

When the *** are pouring through your country, any tanks you can get are a help. And from the German perspective, once your own supply lines are stretched to the max, at times, turning captured tanks against their owners might be easier to resupply with captured ammo dumps than your own tanks.
