Char B1 bis - Dirty Pictures

I love your Char and want to broil it! But seriously, I love that crazy French camo. And 5 crew all told, must be a larger machine than the pictures seem to show.

I have almost finished reading the history of the Battle for Arnhem ( A Bridge to Far ) and the Germans were still using these tanks even tho' they had Tiger 11's. That was 1944. How about that !....cheers....Kenny

I'm a little late on this one but echo the comments made, the comparison to the picture is astonishing.  The dirty, greasy sides are right on the mark.  Great looking char

Cool camo!  If that kit ever comes down into by budget, I'm gonna do it, just to do that camo.

Marc I must add that the weathering is superb, I think all of us on the GB have seen the French site and you have captured the look of these vehicles great, others who have not seen the site should realise how dirty and greasy/dusty these vehicles got especially on those huge sides.

Again well done, great work as usual.

The above action would've made an excellent diorama...  Have you considered doing it?

Really nice work (even though it's a French tank), and making use of the Sharpie is a great idea... I like 'em too... The finish is about perfect, especially given that particular tank's short "life-span" in combat prior to capture..

Also, I just want to say this shot has about the finest example of weathered track I've ever seen..

 

Hans, thanks for posting that... and for that very nice compliments.  Wish I could take credit for being so skillful at reproducing that look but it was purely (ok... mostly) luck.  That was the vehicles whose pics I had in my head when I did the tracks but never referred back to them.  It was the most steps I have ever done to any tracks.  The layers in order were... Alclad dark aluminum, hairspray, Tamiya NATO brown (high parts wiped clean), AK track rust pigment, AK track wash, Mud made from AK damp earth pigment & plaster of Paris, then lastly, selective shading the the mud with AK dk brown wash.

Shell, tread... between the not seeing them go comment and the backup beep, beep, beep... I nearly peed myself

And tread, yeah... heard that about that red light.  Another reason NOT to use a model as a ref

what they really needed were back up lights..... see... I'm a heck of a funny guy !.... I can almost hear em...

As far as the rail goes, someone else pointed out that was to prevent the guns barrels from going low enough to shoot their own vehicle in the keaster.

They thought of everything didnt they ........almost .

O ye, never thought of that. and it would make sense with such short barrels. And it would explain why the end are angeled.

Lovely looking build all round. I do like the effect you have got on the 'bare' metal, the tracks and chain. Very realistic. As for the rail, all i can think of is somthing to hang onto if your sat on top. Can't see any other use for it.
