Need help weathering U.N. Hummer!
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Saturday, January 31, 2004 12:36 PM
I finshed my pefect coat of Testors flat white on my hummer and I am trying to weather it. I began to thouroughly screw it up [IMO] so I stopped. What colors should I use? I was applying watered down black acrylic. Should i be using dark grey instead? Any pics of models in U.N. colors would be helpful. I found a dio of a U.N. M-113 once but i cannot find the pic on the web! As always any help would be appreciated!

MGM, I checked Tony Greenland's book on WWII armor cause he did a Stug III in winter camo and the wash he put on over the white base coat looks like it's brown, but he only mentions it in the text as being "dark". His wash is very thin, I tend to put mine on a little heavier, hum, he's a great a modeler, I'm an okay modeler, perhaps there's something to be learned here.

Try looking in the modern gallery at Missing-Lynxs ( www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/gallery_modern.htm) for photos of two weathered UN vehicles. I was there earlier today and they have photographs of an excellent Canadian M-113 and French VAB models painted in UN white and weathered. This is a great site for anyone building armor models. Hope this helps

THAT'S IT! Thanks! There is also another one in a diorama [can't remeber where i saw that one too. I've already started weathering in black which watered down is sort of a grey. i might still be able to save it without repainting...It doesn't look bad really...just dirty...in greasy sort of way!LOL
