Finally here? M24 Chaffee

Thought you'd like to know... wondering how good those Bronco kits are.  AFV Club is going to release new kit soon if I am correct?

I would like to buy this kit but I am afraid its too late because I have built an Italeri old kit recently.  But I hope this means M42 Duster is coming soon because they use same chassis? Big Smile

No, the M42 Duster is on a different chassis, the M41. The Duster's predecessor, the M19 GMC,  was built on the M24 chassis. As you can see below they have similar turrets, but on different hulls.

Oh crap!  You are correct.  Thanks Stik!  I am always learning something.  Beer

So I will be looking out for that AFV M42 kit but unfortunately it will be a late version used during Vietnam War.  My father-in-law drove it when he was in Army between 1956-1958 or so.

I have their Archer and Bishop. They are the two most impressive armor kits I have ever beheld in the box. And that's stacking them up against some of Tasca's and Dragon's doozies (Tasca Easy Eight, Dragon...umm...any of their Tigers I guess). But...they look like absolutely monumental builds. Lots of tiny parts, lots of PE...kind of kits that have to be built a bit, painted a bit, built a bit more, etc.

Considering the Archer's open top and the Bishop has the big barn doors in the back, I don't think it's really possible to cram as much complexity into a tank like the M24...but it'll probably be amazing nonetheless.

The National Guard used Dusters into the late 80s. I remember seeing one and wondering what the heck it was and walking over to the crew and asking.

Skybow had an M42 on their coming soon list 10 years ago before they had to sell out their molds to AFV Club (which also had their own nice M41). Other than the tracks and the road wheels, very little of the M41 is exactly the same as the M42 modelwise. I'm not even sure a company could reuse the lower hull mold because of the angles and such.

I expect this kit to carry a pretty big premium. It should be expensive on the secondary markets for awhile too. Long desired kit. Italeri kits will probably pop up on ebay now.

What is more most likely is that Bronco will mix the M24 and the M1A1 155mm howitzer to make the M41 HMC. seen here

US SPG/SPH never seem to be big sellers until they are out of production and no longer on the shelves. Then the prices rise. No offense, but their just not sexy as MBTs.

Hummm......brothers don't fight....they just quietly disagree.Whistling

When it comes to the modeling world the tank is king, no doubt.

In the military world.....the tip of the spear is outweighed by the king of battle.

Rob will be at the front giving great tank advice, I will be here at my firing point, making sure you are on target with artillery.

This is a combined arms modeling effort

I was speaking modeling world. Even as a modern US armor builder, I realize that the Tiger tank, Panther and various panzers are more popular than say an Abrams, Bradley or Sherman tank. Any of which out sell any sort of artillery piece, be it towed, self propelled, armored or exposed.

Even the more recent arty pieces, like the Dana, PzHbzt 2000, and some of the various WW2 German howitzers rarely make it to shows. At shows I've been to the armor categories are still over populated by tanks.

In the real world, not including artillery is like trying to play a football game without the forward pass. Tebowing can only get you so far.
