DS Tracks - paint coming off

Try the new Vallejo primers.  They are an acrylic polyurethane.  They come in multiple colors, one is red oxide primer.  I love them.

I have used them also and never had a problem. I have used Tamiya FB as a primer with Alclad Stell then on top. Sorry to hear your problem IWM!

I did wash them, but did not prime them. They are not on the M7 yet, since the paint started comming off when I started to dry fit them.

Hinksy, I think I will follow your advice the strip them, wash again, prime and repaint. I might use an enamel to prime them to get some bit into the DS. I think a soak in Windex will take off the Tamiya flat black.

I really like the DS Tracks and have used them a couple of times i.e. on my Panther G and Jagdpanther. I also used them on my Brummbar because seeing as it has Schurzen fitted you can't see the return rollers and the lack of any sag between them which I normally like. I'm also using them on my current WIP Tiger I as they are ideal for them - no sag required!

I've always painted them the same - primer, paint (thinned approx. 50/50) and the usual rust and mud weathering.

Were there problems with your paint at all? Is it your standard stuff? If everything is ok on the paint front then I'd be inclined to think about possible grease/nasty stuff on the surface of the DS before painting which stopped the paint 'gripping' or no  primer being used.

I always thoroughly wash my DS tracks and prime them and paint with Tamiya Acyrlics. I think you you should strip the paint, wash the tracks, prime, paint again and take it from there. Thats assuming you can remove the tracks from the model - are they fitted yet? 

I definately think it's the paint struggling for grip on that DS surface - a good primer should cure it if you try again, Wildman

I used them once and primed with Testors enamel in a can and sprayed Tamiya rust over that. Worked perfectly for me.

I couldn't say,I have used them 4 times, and I basecoated with XF-64,no primer, and never a problem.It's weird because I have never even cleaned them before painting.I usually thin about 70-30 using Tamiya thinner.
