Seeking a good sized armored personnel carrier.
Posted by CBHusky on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 7:06 PM

I've never built any armor models before, but an idea just hit me last night for a future WHIF (What If) project.

I'm looking for a modern large armored personnel carrier, preferably wheeled, but I can modify a tracked carrier to wheeled if needed. I'm not really concerned about the outside of the carrier and outside detail, but rather am more concerned with the interior and a lot of troop/stowage space. I need an APC that I can detail the hell out of the interior, but also be able to have modelers view the inside, so I'll have to have as many access doors and hatches open as possible.

What options are there for kits that might come close to my needs, particuarly in 1/35 or any larger scales? Anything good for the following:

Stryker

LAV-25

LVTP-7

Other choice?

My suggestion would be to find the Revell Spahpanzer Luchs modern 8x8 armored vehicle. The darn thing's the size of a Winnebago.

There's no interior on that kit and no doors to see inside if there was though. I was gonna suggest a BTR-60,70 or 80.

I would go with one of the Hobby Boss AAVP7A1s.  It is huge and the rear and top opens fully to show off the fully detailed interior.  You could add wheels like you said.

Another option is an AFV Club M1126 Srtyker with either the DToys or Black Dog interior for them.  Again, the rear and tp hatches up to show off the interior.  It is wheeled too.

Or you could go with the new Legend MaxxPro MRAP.  It is wheeled and has a full interior with a rear hatch and side doors.  It is wheeled and looks futuristic on its own.

As you look throughout the choices Gino presented, if you want wheeled, go with the Stryker IMO. You could do one variant without interior and the progress to another with interior

Now the modern battle bus AAVP7A.....now there is the beef!!

After browsing the Net and looking at various pics, etc., this might be the model I'll get. I like the huge amount of interior space it has.

And if I may add Squadron has two of those AAVP kits on sale between 60-70 percent off!

Plus assorted Trumpy Strykers and Red Chinese IFVs (ZLC2000, ZSL-92) from Hobbyboss on sale from 30 percent up.

Hope it's kosher to give them a plug here but when I see a $69.99 kit on sale for $19.99 I have to let someone know about it!

That's not a plug, that's help from a friend.

Thanks Bondoman, I may not be the best AFV modeler but I try to be helpful.

Couldn't resist and went ahead and ordered these last night. After the modern South Korean tank I did a year ago I'm getting more and more of a hankering to build more modern hardware.

AAVP-7A1 with EAAK extra armour

M1132 Stryker ESV - engineer vehicle with mine plow

ZSL-92B - Red Chinese wheeled IFV, looks sorta like a LAV to me
