Clear filter
Posted by JohanT on Saturday, December 10, 2011 9:40 AM

Hi,
I was just reading the latest posts in CBenneth thread (did not want to steal the thread) and was reminded about a post in the German magazine Modell Fan recently.
The author Gunnar Bäumer was using Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange as a filter over his Dark Yellow Tiger which came out just great.
Has anyone tried this?

Very Best Regards
Johan

Yeah, If done lightly and carefully it can warm up the dark yellow color and change the hue just a little. Basically functions the same as any other filter it's just using a "pre-clear" color. Also, Some dark yellow "dunkelgelb" mixes straight from the bottle have a slightly green tinge. Orange is on the opposite side of the color wheel which in theory should help kill some of the green cast and true up the color. I have not read Gunnar's article but I will be happy to ask him and see why exactly he did it.

Johan, This was Gunnar's reply. "I was and still am using the Clear Orange to give the Dark Yellow more vital tones, as it went too greyish after highlighting it with Tamiya´s Deck Tan. Does that make sense somehow? Adam was doing so in the Color Modulation DVD and that´s when I gave it a try as well. And it sure works great. I was using a 3:1 mixture to have more control over this process.

Basically he used the Clear Orange to re saturate the yellow tones of his base color.

Thanks you for this update K-dawg.
I am going to try this on my Panther A build later.
I guess the approach can be used for adding blue hue to Panzer Grey and green to OD as well.

Anyway - thank you for getting in contact with Gunnar and clarifying this for me - I guess this proves how small and yet widely spread this community is Big Smile

Very Best Regards
