Academy Tiger with interior as requested
Posted by 70gtvert on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 12:19 PM

Had a single pic on an earlier post in a different forum here (autos, go figure!) and was asked to post more pics of it. This time I am doing so in the correct forum!

This had some corrections done to some of the bigger flaws such as ammo storage bins and lower hull details like shock placement and fuel tank filler details, but is pretty much OOB other than that and the wine bottle I stuck inside the turrent. They give you enough shells to do the 4 across, you just have to rebuild the storage area somewhat. Used brass Bare Metal Foil on the shells. Did minimal weathering as I wanted the interior to be the focal point. Really surprised at how well the parts fit together to show the "completed" model. You would never know it opens up.

I knew this kit had an interior, but i never realised it was as comprehensive as this. Very nice job there. I like it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

That is one impressive piece of work 70gtvert.
You have done this kit a great favour and completed it beautifully and exactly the way intended.
I am simply amazed by all the detail you have in there...

Thank you for sharing and welcome to the forum (auto's...go figure)

Very Best Regards
Johan

First let me say very nice build.

Second I have this kit in my stash, hows the fit on the parts? I've had "issues" in the past which Acedemy so just want to check

Thanks

Phil

Great job on the interior, tanks for posting more pictures!

The natural light is best for pictures like you have done, yet if glare is a problem try a sheet of paper between the light source and the subject. Also a flat background such as a colored sheet of construction paper works well and keeps the focus on the subject.

The brass foil, was it a model specific product or off a chocolate bar wrapper, if so which one?

Well, built from the box you will have no problem with fit overall. However, there are flaws with the kit as it comes OOB, the most flagrant being the ammo stowage. OOB the shells are only 3 deep, in reality they were 4 deep. A little scrap plastic was able to correct that as well as build the support you see going vertically on the center bins. That support is left out of the kit as is. Problem with making the shells 4 deep along with that brace is they infringe on the turrent basket, so you have to compromise and both make the support narrower or off altogether as well as trim down the diameter of the turrent floor. The fuel tanks do not come with the flange with the holes in it at the top of the filler, just a filler that is a tube. Front shock on the radio ops side is set at the same angle as the driver side. the driver side is correct, the radio ops is not and needs to be glued in the reverse angle of the driver, easy enough to do. Top of the radio stack has a large seam that is hard to fill, I just layered on some thin sheet plastic and added the trim to it too. The air filters have a flexible plastic tube that connect to the top of the hull and filters. The filter side is missing a bracket(the small square you see in the pics where this tube attaches to the filter). Otherwise it was a straightforward build with lots of parts. Try it and enjoy. Oh yeah, there is a good website where the brits restore their captured Tunisia (SIC?) Tiger back to running conditions that help with placement and colors.

The camera is a Xmas gift that will have a learning curve attached to it, thanks for the lighting tip. The foil is from Bare Metal Foil, available from most hobby shops or on line shops.
