1.  Have fun with the hobby

2. Try to finish more builds before starting others, but defer to resolution #1.

3. Participate more in the forums, including more group builds.   See  #1.

4.  Try to keep from getting injuries that prevent me from modelling.   See #1.

Happy New Year everybody!

An excellent resolution Bill- although I'm thankful I've had no trouble achieving that. I do need to continue efforts to finish something.....

Always interesting to see what my fellow modelers resolve to do for the coming year!

This year I will make onIy 1 resolution...to have fun with the hobby and enjoy the community of friends here and elsewhere that come with it. Beer Happy New Year 2012!

1) to concentrate on my backlog of Dioramas.

2) Not to enter any new Gb's until 1 is complete and only then kits i am ready to build as complete dioramas.

3) to get all my modelling stuff moved home with as little damage as possable

4) get somewhere at home to build the models in.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

  1. to not sign up for any new GBs until I'm actually ready to crack open a new kit - I think I may have already broken this one though....
  2. figures - if they come with a kit, paint 'em!
  3. try some new scratchbuilding - i finally started adding cockpit details, lines, seatbelts etc. this past year. They don't look pro yet, but I had a blast & they really add something.
  4. carry on contributing & having fun! No local club for me - the online gang IS my model club!

To build several kits for every new kit added to my stash. I have started to lose track of what I have.

Finish a kit every 6 weeks.

Perhaps get good enough to...No, make GET good enough to...enter a contest!

FWIW, I hereby resolve to NOT pay list price for ANY kit I buy in 2012.  I can't come up with any other way to let the manufacturers/distributors know that I'm unhappy with the continuing rise in prices except to boycott kits that are being sold at list price.

If I can't get the kit cheap on eBay, or from Sprue Brothers, or at a show, I'll simply wait until the prices come down.  And yes, I have a big enough stash that I can wait a long time, even a very long time.

Primarily late WWII Western Europe modeling.

Hi guys,

I'm not one for resolutions but my modelling is getting pretty good now and I want to take it up a notch. I'm currently working on my Tamiya Marder II and have an assembled but unpainted Dragon Initial Production Tiger I that I'm hoping turns out to be something special.

This year I've learnt how to use the Hairspray Method for whitewashing and chipping, Oil Paints for streaking and dot filtering and all sorts of stuff that has made my work really take off!

So, in 2012 I want to:

  • Get confident and get over my fears of figures in 1/35 and 1/48. I just find them so hard but would love to be able to paint them well enough to actually use with my builds i.e. in hatches and on bases to complement my work instead of detracting from it which is what my current figures do.
  • Try using salt to give different chipped finishes
  • Use Hairspray! Now that I know how to apply the hairspray method I want to actually start using it to great effect
  • Make either a badly damaged tank (mine) or a burnt out hulk of a former tank!
  • Build more WWII Western Allied and Russian Armour. Apart from my JSU-152 which I built during Jan/Feb 2011 I've only built German this year which I love but I feel that I should build more Brit and American Armour at least. I've got Dragon's Sherman Hybrid IC Firefly and Bronco's Comet in the stash so I'm well prepared.
  • Learn how to use PE properly and effectively.
  • Build a Vietnam era M48.

Cheers guys and HAPPY NEW YEAR! Balloons

Take care,

Ben Toast

Interesting stuff so far....looks like most want to be organized and finish builds!!

Gamera.....I agree with Karl, now is always the time. I look at resolutions as a marker to look back on and measure. Especially making resolutions for a hobby...real life is soooooo nuts right now, I am lucky to have a hobby!!

Nice stuff guys!

Not a big fan of resolutions, I think The Doog said if you're going to change your life why wait till New Year's? Gotta agree with that.

Still for 2012 I'm going to try to do some more armour and fewer aircraft. This one I'll probably keep.

For resolutions I probably won't keep:

Start fewer items and finish more.

Less cussing and getting ticked off when I lose parts etc...

Interesting! I didn't have any modeling resolutions this past year...but looking ahead to 2012:

1 - Continue to keep the blog humming along. It's exploded this year - monthly views are up from 1300 last December to nearly 11,000 this year. The fall giveaway was a great success, and the comment activity has been highly rewarding and informative.

2 - By fewer kits and thin the stash herd of the ones I know in my heart I'll never build.

3 - Place better than third in something at the Austin show in September.

4 - Build a boat

5 - Diorama

I guess my resolutions should be:

1) Make sure I actually finish all GB contributions.

2) Sign up for the "No More Excuses" GB and make as many contributions there as possible from my "started but never finished" stash.

I'll leave it at that.  I find that the more you try to plan things, the more likely things won't go to plan and the more potential to get stressed out.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I will Charlie Mike with my 2011 modeling resolution and continue to hammer away at the partial builds giving them priority over starting new builds. And finishing "new" starts in a timely manner. This year I can count the builds started and not completed this calender year on one hand... a huge improvement.Stick out tongue

Happy New year Redleg. I've already done number 2 on your list. It's really hard not getting the latest and greatest kit to hit the market.

I don't have a resolution, but I would like to try to beat 4-6 builds for next year. That would draw down my stash as well.

Also, I'd like to finish my in-progress Zero and maybe another plane.

First lets look at my last years resolutions

  1. Continue to add to the web site - Still up and running and up to date....just added updates today
  2. Try again for 6 builds - Nope only made 4
  3. Try to draw down the stash (currently at 194 with another 172 accessories) and minimize purchases - Nope, this was the year of some good artillery releases from AFV, Bronco to name a few
  4. Attend AMPS International along with AMPS East - Great show and was a great time
  5. Send some photos to FSM - Nope, try again this year
  6. Stay up to date here and on my other forums - I'm here !!

So with that in mind here is 2012

  1. Keep up with all my friends here
  2. Minimize stash purchases and sell off older kits which have now been replace by better kits.
  3. Send photos to FSM and articles to other magazines
  4. Keep on building....try again for 6
  5. Keep up the web site, going on year two.
  6. Attend Mosquitocon and AMPS East
  7. Most of all, have a better year than 2011 all around

To all my friends....Happy New Year!!
