Chain hooks

Those cables don't have hooks, they have loops (likely not the correct word) at the end of the cable.  This is typical of what it looks like.

I think Accuarate Armor makes some resin hooks..

When I worked there I was always spotting chains and stuff in the jewelry department that would be great for modeling.

German AFVs didn't use chains. They used cables.  Only German AFV Modelers use chains. German AFV Crewmen knew better not to. Don't use the chains.

What you have here are called "tow shackles"

There are also "tow hooks" seen on US vehicles such as this M577, the "J" shaped fittings on the lower front with the end cross member that fits into the eyes of tow cables.

A shackle can be scratch built out of copper wire. Flatten the ends and drill a hole in each. Bend into a 'U' shape and use a scale bolt for the connecting pin.

This will result in a miniature shackle, pull tank out of the ditch as required!

In this picture a metal tow loop was CA glued through the hull. A miniature shackle is connected to a length of wire. The 1/72 scale Jagpanther is blue tacked to a piece of hockey stick for handling, obviously the set-up is overkill for a static model but if used for R/C very useful & realistic!

Thanks stick... the words just escaped me for the moment.  And I know you are talking about what's on the front, I still couldn't think of what the darn things were called.  I was actually referring to the shape of the cable ends since I didn't realize the original post was talking about "chains".  But as stated, it was usually cable instead of chains.

I'd like to go back to the 4allscotties orginal question (great question, BTW!).  Does anyone know if there is a maker of 1/35 chain hooks?  I'm talking about the hooks often seen at the ends of chains on some armored vehicles.  Some of the early armor of WWII and going back to WWI use chains instead of cable (ie, Char 1 bis, FT-17, T-26, BT-5 etc.) for whatever reason, and also with lifting winches on repair/recovery vehicles.  I've tried looking for some myself and can't find any except for Accurate Armour (thanks for the tip Hans!!)  The problem with AA is it only comes with a winch assembly kit, and you only get a couple.  I've tried making some myself but it is a hassle.....much rather purchase some specific resin or plastic AM parts.

Thanks for the info on making shackles.  They are quite expensive if bought from that website in the UK.  Actually, I need info in chain hook, you know the kind you usually see on both ends of a length of chain.

Does anyone know where I can buy realistic  chain hooks to put on the ends of a length of chain??  I plan to drape it over my 1/35 Tiger but it looks ridiculous without hooks.  Thanks....

there are hooks already with the tiger as part of the OVM tool sets on all German AFV's they look like U's with curved points.

Yeah, I just did a search using "tow", "hook", and "chain" but didn't find anything.  Also checked most of their 1/35 accessories and couldn't find one chain hook.  Small pics and short descriptions on the products didn't help much.    Also tried Tiger Models.  They've got some nice looking resin hooks, but only with their boom and hoist sets.

Well turn my buckle!!  Nice find 4allscotties!!  That's pretty close to what I'm looking for, even has shackles and chains included!  $15 is a BIT pricey, but if that's the only game in town.....
