How to make sandbags with cloth and modeling clay
Posted by diggeraone on Monday, February 2, 2004 6:26 PM
Well howdy everybody,I figured that I would tell you how I make sandbags for any armour that requries useage. This is something that me and a friend back in San Diego during the 70tys.First you will need some modeling clay(the cheap stuff from wal-mart you know the stuff when you were a kid)Two you will need some cloth which you can buy at wal-mart.It will have to be the tightly woven type.Third is a bottle of Elmers glue.
Now take your modeling clay and cut it in quarters lenght-wise.Once done roll to about 1/4 inch round then flaten.Cut flaten clay about 3/4 inch long.Next take your cloth and cut a wide strip.Laying your cloth flat place your clay pieces about 1inch or more apart down the middle lenght of the cloth strip. Then take your glue and glue two side of the cloth(the lenght an wideth)close to the clay(very close).Take cloth and fold it over, pressing down on the glue.Let dry and you will have a string of sandbags ready to cut.Once dry cut near the two glued edges next to the clay.Don't cut to close but close enought for a very small edge.On the open end cut at lest a 1/2 to 3/4 access of cloth that you can fold over.
With this kind of sandbag you can mold to what you need, also you can remove some clay throught the open in to make them smaller or add to make bigger. The clay nor the cloth have to be a certain color due to you can paint them and use them over and over again.
I hope this helps you out in the future and that you have fun making them.
