Scale Drawings of Modern Armor?
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 4:55 PM

I hope to scratch build at least one or two types of modern armored vehicles in 1/25th scale to add to my 1/25th Panther and Jagdpanther kits.

While a plethora of 3 and 4 view scale drawings are available for WWII German armor , I have not yet located

similar detailed drawings for modern armor subjects.

I have only seen one source, so far:

Has anyone located another source for similar drawings?

I have purchased a couple of books from Barnes & Noble that contain rudimentary scale drawings of MANY vehicles. Most are 4 view and usually either 1/35 or 1/48 scale drawings. They probably aren't enough to scratchbuild a vehicle from though. The last one i purchased was on cold war vehicles.

T-34/85 (yes it's WWII but had a long post war combat career as well)

and SU-100

They also make a Tiger in 1/25

The Tiger and Centurion are both supposed to be nice well detailed kits with interiors, even if they are old.

Personally I think the Chieftan would be pretty sweet...

While not in 1/25 scale, George Bradford's drawings are available in 1/48 & 1/35 for the scratchbuilder. http://models.cno-nz.co.nz/gb/

I was unaware, until last November,  that the Tamiya  ( and Academy  ) 1/25th scale kits had been re-released a year or two ago.Embarrassed

I'm now playing catch up and , unfortunately, my budget did not permit buying until this month ( sure regret missing the Black Friday sales Crying) .

I probably purchased the last Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I kit on the North American continent and am currently awaiting delivery.

While a Tamiya 1/25 T-34 may be my next tank purchase, I was thinking mostly of armored vehicles introduced since the mid 1970s such as the Merkava ,Leopard 2 and M1A Abrams.

The Abrams and Leopard are available as 1/24th RC at roughly $150, but the fact that I would be gutting them

by removing the electronics and motors makes the price less palatable.

I used to do a lot of armor scratch building in 1/76th scale during the 1970s so I know what I would be up against.

I also have a small lathe (5x12 ) for turning road wheels and barrels so the major barrier is now access to decent drawings.

Rob, thanks for the George Bradford's drawings link; I'll sift through it for vehicle drawings.

The drawings don't need to be 1/25th, only large enough to show good detail.

I can enlarge prints to 1/25th.
