1/35 Tiger I Early Prod. Diorama
Posted by TheWildChild on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 8:57 PM

this is Academys Tiger I Early Production with a full interior. this is my first 1/35 armor kit as an experienced modeler and i have to say, although i bit off a bit much to chew, I'm definitely hooked on 1/35 armor. I'm giving myself a break from the interior (correcting the problems inside is getting frustrating lol) to finish the exterior for a change of pace. i know most tigers had the dark yellow under the whitewash, but im leaving mine in panzer grey. i will be applying a whitewash with the hairspray method in a few days (once the grey is done and all the main exterior parts are attached) will post more pics as i progress. criticisms, questions, and thoughts welcome!

the final weathering will dull down (and clog up) the tracks as well as show a more "battle fatigued" finish.

TheWildChild, I see it didn't take long for you to get that Tiger looking the part. To bad that interior has to be so hidden. The base also looks darn good so far. Looking forward to seeing more of this as it progresses.

still doesent quite measure up to your tiger though lol. i used celluclay for the mud and woodland scenics burnt grass with snow over the top...i figured with a lil green showing through it would break up the groundwork and look better and i think it does...i was thinking of making a snowman with Von Manstien's head but im gonna hold off on that one lol. i will have to take some close-ups of the mud, i actually took some of the figures and made the suck-holes for footsteps that you get when you step in ankle-deep mud and it actually exceeded my own expectations. i agree on the interior, i wish it came with a clear hull roof, engine covers, and turret roof so you could show off that interior work while still having the sort of "combat ready" look. i have a few other projects to work on simultaneously so progress wont be real fast, but slow and steady means better looking work anyway. hows that tiger of yours coming along anyway?
