Cool armor things in new FSM (SA-2, wheel masks); Revell U-boat problem

Got my issue of the new FSM last night and I noticed two nice new armour things in there.

One was the review of the SA-2 with transport ZIL by Trumpeter. Though it sounds like a complicated build, WOW. Just look at the finished product. What a huge SAM! Looks like a tactical SSM. Apparently it's the missle that may have shot down Gary Powers, and it seems also to have caused us some problems in Vietnam. A really awesome looking kit. Trumpeter is proving that they really know how to wow you in 1/35th.

The other is in an ad for, I think, Verlinden, but don't quote me. It's wheel masks! Vinyl ones -- I didn't see details of which tanks they are designed for, but let's just say they showed a variety of different wheels. This would be great for all tanks with tires on their road wheels -- it's almost as much of a pain for us as canopies are for the aircraft builders.

One sad note, unrelated to armor -- got the new U-boat from Revell from White Ensign Models in England. I was excited until I saw how they'd packed the model for shipping -- they put a cardboard girdle around the middle of the box, but then just put brown paper around the two ends of the box, taped to the cardboard girdle. As a result, the box took a beating as it came across the Atlantic, and part of the bow on the port hull half is smashed off. The kit also came without the decals it's supposed to have. What a bummer to an otherwise very exciting arrival. I've written to White Ensign and I'll see what they have to say tonight. Sad [:(]

Cool kit though -- the OOP deck guns are mch nicer than the standard fare, though they still have room for improvement.
