A friend who has built models, but doesn't build on a regular basis is asking me who makes the best M1A1 (1/35th). I told him I would ask the experts.
Seems to be Tamiya or Dragon?
Your thoughts, Thanks
Considering your friend doesn't build on a regular basis,,, Tamiya would be the best bet
Enjoy the ride!
Dragons M1A1 AIM is a great kit, lots of brass, metal barrel ,nicely detailed, magic tracks, and very affordable lately

Dragon's new Abrams kits are the best, but there are two of the.
The M1A1 AIM or the M1A2 SEP. They are harder to build (and much better) than the Tamiya M1A1/A2 kit though.

Thanks everyone who replied. I will let him know what you guys posted and let him decide.
The Dragon kits also come with the non-slip surface that is missing on the Tamiya kit.

As far as I can recall, all other generally available M1A1/A2 kits (all generations of Dragon kits, Italeri, Trumpeter) include the non-slip texture that Tamiya lacks.
*EDIT: The Academy kit also lacks the texturing.
As stated, Best is the Dragon M1A1 AIM (and the Dragon M1A2 SEP).
Easiest to build that produces a decent looking Abrams, Tamiya's M1A2 (which builds into 3 different variants).
