Gee, I must be the only 1/6th fan here. It the best scale for those of us with limited skill and talent!

Favorite armor scale? 1/1Wink [;)]
Favorite model scale? 1/35. Anything smaller, you sacrifice detail, anything larger, you sacrifice room in your house to display them!

1/35 4ever! I used to love painting and detailing 1/87 ROCO. That became too small. I knew every hobby shop in the country that carried a good stock. Then went crazy with the 1/18th scale. That became a space problem and limited availability. 1/35th is just right!

all too true... for example, if u want an S-Tank, the Trumpeter 1/35 kit is pretty easy to find. but if u want one in 1/72 like i do, that's a harder search. so then u have to decide if u want one no matter what scale it is. then the display question comes up.
where do i put this thing once i'm finished building it ?
subject availability, cost and space concerns seem to be defining issues... but i do like 1/72 and 1/76 and would probably build in those scales even if i had more money and space.
btw, that stuart article was great; also the one about adding mud to armor. i always look forward to ur byline...

It seems as if availability has a big impact on what people build. For myself, there's no way I'd pass up a nice, injection molded Stuart or Sherman in 1/25 scale for one in 1/35. However, I build 1/35 most, almost exclusively, because that's what's out there. It's like a car modeler looking for 1/35 scale instead of 1/25 or 1/24.. it ain't gonna happen very often!

If I could afford 1/16 it would be my favorite... Tongue [:P]

Actually I like the tons of 1/35 stuff out there. Plenty of selection! Smile [:)]

I voted for 1/35th there's room to scratch build stuff (I'm doing a emhar ww1 tank) and you can still fit it on the shelf, I really like 1/72 though you can do one of those up in the motel room the night before a show (trust me) and the selection of subjects, PRICE and photoetch is getting better all the time.

Given the plethora of update kits, figures, decals....and just the range in kits...1/35th just has to be the best. Not too big that you need to extend your home to have a collection (sorry you 1/25th guys) but big enough to be able to appreciate the detail.

I would have to vote for 1/35 solely for the availability and economics of the scale. ie don't want to rob a bank at this time of my life to pay for 1/16 scale.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

M1,

1/285 are put out by GHQ, and there are LOTS of them. I think they are all white metal one piece castings. I have no idea what the heck they are good for! (Maybe melt down and recast into shell casings! lol

no, ur not alone by any means.
since i do a lot of modeling in 1/160 (n-scale rr stuff), 1/72 actually looks pretty big to me...Wink [;)]

i'm still very new to modeling armor, but 1/72 is my fave for now...lots of choice for modern armor (my personal preference) and really affordable, not to mention small enough to display but large enough to detail if u want to.

Yeah, yeah, 1/35 is the most COMMON scale, and therefore has by far the widest range of kits and accessories, but wouldn't you all rather have all that good stuff in 1/25 scale? Sure ya would! We all would! Wouldn't you just LOVE to have a 1/25 Tamiya Porsche Tiger II, Sherman M4A1, Marder III, or JS-II done to the same modern standards we all appreciate, with all the resin and PE to go along with them?? YOU KNOW YOU WOULD!!
I still can't believe I'm the only one who voted for 1/25.

I guess they would be quite expensive, but...a beautiful, diamond-cutting Porsche-suspension Jagdtiger in 1/25 scale?? Oh, I'd pay! I'd pay!

I chose 1/35th since it's the only armor i have done and i like it, but i have never seen a 1/25th scale armor...

Hard to argue with the 1/35th voters just on sheer number of subjects and availability alone. However, there's nothing at all wrong with an occasional 1/25th, 1/16th or 1/9th endeavor especially when those 1/35th faces keep getting smaller and smaller with the advancing age of the modeler!

72nd scale. I can park the tank beside my planes and choppers and size them all up.

I build 1/72 scale, but I also build 1/35th. It's a space-available thing, ya know! :) - Ed

I also love 1/72 scale Armor wallig. My collection right now numbers 376 Armor pieces built with another four in various stages of completion on my workbench. I have pretty big fingers too, but I love building this scale. I'm able to display 6 to 8 pieces in the same space as a 1/35 scale heavy tank! :-) Besides, I have 226 aircraft in 1/72 scale, so I like to keep it all consistent. ;-)

I have about six Shermans, one of which is the Sherman "Calliope". Almost all of them were done by Italeri, but they look pretty close to accurate for the most part except for a few version-specific details here and there. They at least have good detail molded in their parts. I had built all of them about 18 years to 22 years ago; I haven't dome anything recent though. I do have a Revell-Germany kit of a Shreman I'm going to build with Russian Markings to show a Lend Lease tank.

Like the 1/76 'cause it really save display space. And now they are making it more detailed and accurate than those old years.

Would have to go 1/35. It's readilly available, and not too small for those of us with large fingers.

BTW, 1/285? Would that be the equivalent of epic scale?

Nice erush, I would get the display model myself. I can barely work th eremote for the television, so there is no way I can rig up an R/C Unit to it. If you get to it, get some pics up.

Thanks
