Thinking the T-34/85 would be the best pick.

There are many suitable kits of this best. Best thing is the age of the tank can allow for quite faded and weathered paint.

Any that remained is service after WWII most likely were repainted. So 10 years of fade and general wear and tear without battle damage or repaired damage.

A few 'patches' over shot deflections on the front plate would be a nice touch, possibly some bullet gouges on the turret. Remember all this would have been painted over.

From what I can see in pics, not many T54s or T55s were used then.  There were lots of JS3s, T34s, and PT76s though.  The markings look like standard Soviet turret numbers and that's about it.

You can see lots more pics here.

Budapest 1956 Soviet armor??
Posted by AUSTanker on Friday, February 10, 2012 5:30 PM

Greetings:

Looking to build a 1/35 scale Soviet tank as used in the suppression of the Hungarian Revolution in Budapest, 1956.  I know Trumpeter has that awful old 1/35 T-54 kit, but I'm not seeing decals for it specifically for the Red Army, Budapest 1956.

Lots of decals out there for Soviet armor in Middle Eastern paint schemes, markings, etc., but would love to get back to basics and build a classic Cold War era Soviet tank!

Many thanks for any suggestions or references to 1/35 Cold War Sovier armor decals out there.
