New to Armor and liking it!

Hi again everyone, I'm just starting my first armor kit and I love it allready.
It's really nothing super hard or anything, but I like the kit alot.... I'm building the 1:72 scale Revell Jagdpanther kit. I'm allready starting with some scratch built details, leather straps from masking tape, buckles from copper wire, and a tarp made from a small cut of plasic grocery bag painted flat olive green. I'm also particularly proud of how got my kit.......along with two others, a Sea Hurricane Mk 11 C, and a P 47 M Thunderbolt..... but the cool part is I got the whole lot plus some good info for 20 $'s! But the point is to ask if anyone has any tips about detailing without resin or photoetched parts? I'm open to just about anything, but know that i don't have acess to sheet styrene and try to find substitutes! Thanks for the help!!!!! Any ides are usefull! Bye!

Try using aluminum foil in lieu of PE parts. You can fold it to produce thicker layers if needed. Of course it won't be as sturdy a PE.

There are substantial amounts of 1/72 scale PE sets available, especially for mainstream WW2 German armor kits. Part, ExtraTech and Eduard do PE for 1/72 scale kits.

I've been here since June (first post. Joined says March) and I'm finding there is still so much to learn. One thing I like is the first hand knowledge of the new kits and products as well as old ones, by our members. Saves a lot of time contemplating what to buy.

I'm old enough to remember when there was no PE or Resin... we used sheet styrene (a lot of it)... it's flat, white plastic. Available from Squadron, Walthers, etc. Also as mentioned Thick, heavy duty aluminum foil, tin foil (toothpast tubes used to be made from it).. sheet brass... and even wood. There are a lot of possibilities without going resin or PE.

Yeah this new fangled resin and Pe stuff... I'm only 26 and I remember when Verlinden was about the only game in town... Modeling has made HUGE advances in the last 10 years... but not all for the best... Big Smile [:D]

I mean how enjoyable is makeing a workable 1/35 bicycle chain....?

Its more satisfying to me to make parts from scratch anyway than to fold them up form etched frets...My 2 cents...

for grab handles/tie downs, i sometimes use garbage bag twist tie wire. just burn the paper off first Big Smile [:D]

to the Darkside glenoak! It is great to see another armor modeler here, especially one that builds Braille Scale (1/72)! I had felt so alone here when I first joined these Forums, seeing all these 1/35th scale posts, so I decided to start posting some pics of my little stuff. Now we are more frequently represented.

I do too! I use it on a lot of my sci fi kits. Just a couple of days ago I used a couple of office staples bent to shape to replace the racks for those "sand ramp thingies" on the side of my Pink Panther. The plastic ones on one side were broken. It was a partially assembled kit from Evil-Bay.

Okay thanks again... Yes I intend only to build 1/72 scale due to $ restraints.... and I need help ,...... How do i post images or pictures? anyhow thanks for the welcome and I know how you feel about not having PE... Icould use it but choose not to, I prefer scrathbuilding from plastic bags... copper wire, ect. So I am an all original do it your selfer! Thanks for the welcome!!!!!! and keep the thoughts coming!
