Good idea.  Waht are you doing to support the added shelves?  The included shelves sit on cross braces.

Here we go dood-dood, the dowels are from The Home Depot. They are like .60 cents each (36''):

Not that model kits weigh much but sturdy are the zap ties.  Seems like a strong chance for slipping?

A quick google search found some ad's listing oakly cabinets $600 and up - do they come cheaper?

You might try a local plastic manufacturing company, they might be able to whip up something quick and simple.

Not at all mate, the zip ties are fitted diagonally and they actually are very sturdy. Ace also can sell you plexi-glass instead but it is actually more expensive than the glass shelves. Get one shelf and give it a try, you'll be back for more Wink

..............I often use the large IMEX display cases that often can be found at Hobby Lobby. They are large enough most 1/35th scale models; sometimes more then one.

Yeah, I have 4 of the IKEA glass towers.  With their wide shelf spacing, I'd have to add one a year, and I probably have 2 years of production that won't fit in them already.  Rather than just buy 2 more now, I'm thinking of something tighter between the shelves.

I think you're talking about these. You can double the shelf capacity. I get extra glass shelves at Ace Hardware for around $4.25 a shelf (3/16''). The one on the picture has 7 shelves (8 with the bottom) and I'm planning to add 2 more.

I'd like to know the price of the Oakley cases, too. They look perfect.

I must admit these look perfect!  So I buy from a Oakley Sunglass distributor, correct?  What would I expect to pay for these beauties?

Thanks!  This is the outfit I was looking for, they used to have an ad in FSM, but I couldn't remember their name.  I like what they have, the only down side is the models I like best are not lighted.  I'm considering lighting them myself........

Since your specs include glass doors and lighted, check these out - Oakley sunglass cases. Look great, built in lighting (yes I've since replaced the burnt out bulb!), and they're strong enough to withstand a small nuclear blast - made of steel. See if you've got a distributor in your area, or a store that sells their products...might be able to round some up for you.

“Glass doows”? (The “More” is on right; the “Edit” is bottom.)

Ikea isn't real Vegas.  Browse LV Furniture 2 Go.com ??? “Small” would be...

Display Cabinets for 1/35 armor?
Posted by dood_dood on Monday, March 5, 2012 9:26 PM

Hey fellas, does anybody have a source for some big display cabinets?  I've outbuilt my shelves and want a nice, big, lighted cabinet with glass doows and a mirror back.  Narrow shelving space, say 10" would be ideal to cram full of armor.  Anyone?
