Accurizing old Hummers?
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Friday, February 6, 2004 12:24 AM
I just won an italeri Dessert Hummer from Evil-Bay yeserday. I am away that many of the earlier kits by Italeri and tamiya have inaccuracies suce as the prototype "four-hole" front bumper and all of the tires suck on every Hummer to date [i'm not sure about the "new" tamiya one's though]. I just wondered if any of you guys have any suggestions. i plan on picking up some more old hummer kits as well. the Hobby Craft kits have the correct bumpers but the old style mirrors and the rubber tires lack tread.

I did a pair of articles on the Italeri HMMWVs. You can find them both listed at the above link. Italeri did re-tool the chassis and included the proper 3-holed bumper in later issues of their kits. The actual body went through at least 2 additional toolings.

The second article covers some of the aftermarket items available to improve the Italeri based HMMWVs. Tamiya's original M242 Bushmaster armed HMMWV and both of Revell's HMMWVs were all Italeri-based HMMWV kits.

Robert Burnside sells them, but I don't think he lists them on his site. I think his website is http://home.comcast.net/~alpenflage-hobbies/alpenflage.htm. We're members of the same AMPS club, if you use the contact us link, you can send him a message and ask if he still has them. I think I saw some there last month.

Any idea how much they are. I've never bought aftermarket parts before? That link doesn't work. Who makes the wheels?
