Our club website and my write up/photos from last weeks show:
Posted by Hinksy on Sunday, March 25, 2012 12:42 PM

Hi guys,

Some of you will recall me telling you about my attendance with my club at Hinckley Model Show last Sunday.

The club 'boss' Alan gave me his Camera and asked me to do a little write-up seeing as I was a show newbie (in as far as displaying my work on the table and speaking to possible members-usually I just go for a couple of hours to spend money.

Click on on 'club news' and 'events gallery' and on the drop-downs that appear click on the bits tagged with '*NEW*' you'll be able to see all the stuff that was at a local show last week - it's one of the biggest on the UK calender.

If you look at the *new* events gallery update you'll be able to see my write up under the header "EMMC Show - Sunday 18th March - Ben's view of events!"

I took all the photos on the page with my write up which is why they aren't very good but you get the idea! wink 2

I hope you like the photos and my little write-up chaps!

Take care,

Ben smile d

I really enjoyed reading the article!  Great job taking pictures!!!  I have to say that familiar Tiger is my favorite.  Please do not hesitate to enter your recent builds... Thanks for sharing!

Good job Ben!

The photographs are excellent considering you were handed someones camera that morning. It looks like at one point you changed the light source settings to compensate for the 'yellow' sodium lighting... the curse of photography!

The quality of the models is impressive! Did you place with any entries?

Also is the club just military builders? I did not read the article.

The Vietnam river boat was my personal favorite.Toast

Thanks for posting the link!

Hey Ben, you're far too modest! Both the photos and the article are quite well done. The display looks like it would have been inspiring for me too.

I agree with your 'sometimes less is more' thoughts. Although I respect builders who choose to uber-weather their models, my tastes run toward light weathering most of the time...(in my case it may be mostly due to impatience and/or laziness...lol)

There are precious few shows in my area, so thanks for the peek from the Hinckley Model Show

Cheers

Brad

Ben where was your stuff?  What you've posted here are as good as most of what you photographed.  Take the plunge.  All you've go to lose is a few quid for entry fees.

Hey satch,

My stuff is there on our table matey - I just didn't enter it in the competition as I wanted it on the club table I'll be entering the Tiger into the competition next show I visit. Most of the photos are of stuff not entered into the competions, just builds on club tables.

Here is my Initial Tiger I that I've just completed (Erm, that that's the tank on the walnut base for those who don't know what a Tiger I looks like Wink):

Here is my Tamiya JSU-152 - the one on the right of these three in front with the 'log' and chains:

My other 6 builds that i took with my favourite Leningrad Panzer III N c/w Winterketten Friuls at the center rear:

This beast below was probably one of my favourite builds of the day. It was built by a club member of ours and on our table but I only met him briefly that day and can't remember his name Embarrassed - in the flesh it looked superb:

The other favourite of mine was this Jagdtiger that was in the competition room. They had AWFUL Sodium lamps in there as it's a sports hall and it ruined the photo - as previously mentioned I had a 3 minute lesson on using this very expensive and complicated camera! The build was excellent:

  • In hindsight, my Tiger I initial would have stood a very good chance of a place in the competition results. There were not that many entries but what was there wasn't massively better than my latest two builds. It seems that a lot of Brit modellers don't like heavy weathering - I do. That was quite apparent! Pin washes and light pigments were the order of the day (apart from on my builds). No one really 'went messy and muddy' on their work?

Anyway, I'm REALLY glad that you guys liked this post. I wasn't sure if you'd be interested but this is a good cross-sectional view of Brit Modelling. I wish I'd took more photos as some of the dio's were AMAZING!

Cheers guys,

Ben Toast
