Nice!
I removed the vinyl flooring around my workbench and painted the wood with a heavy duty, white enamel. I'm still on all fours regularly, but now at least I can find what I'm looking for Blindfold [X-)]

Just don't go with green. It's amazing how EVERYTHING blends in with it. Brown, grey, red, even brass!! I'm on the floor so much everytime I build, it's amazing I haven't worn out the knees in several pairs of pants!!

My office carpet has an ammo box and several tiny handles lost in it some where. It's a tight nap carpet but it's a dark color and there is vertually no light under the desk. I've had to craw around on all fours with my lighted handcuff key as a flashlight looking for parts!LOL

Ha Ha I spend so much time looking for parts on my shop floor I installed a flourcent "undercabinet" light under my bench. It stayes on all the time. It was about 10 bucks at walmart.... One of the best Investment I have made... I highly recommend it...

I saw a tip: someone put a white shower curtain on the floor if any parts fall on the ground it's easier to find them.

man ill tell you i got that big fluffly carpet, something falls into there, and its lost forever, i can probably build an entire kit with the stuff in there, luckily i came up with putting plastic around my workbench. Unfortunatly when that tweezerfire happens, i have no idea where they fire to sometime, some of them are probably at the other end of the room.

I thought that I was the only one with this problem. I lost a part tonight and I had to get down on all fours. Sort of like tearing apart a carbuetor and havinf a spring fly off in to the wild blue yonder!

Yep, they ol' "Hunt for the part problem".
Family already knows the signs when they need to stop moving so that I can my parts, if part is not found it is vacuum cleaner time.

Put a piece of cloth betwen the Pipes and get going, the cloth acts as a trap and will catch the little missing dastards.

NEW place will be flooring all the way and modelling desk moves into a triangular shaped corner(PC) desk which should cut down on the lost pieces, below the chair will be a clear plastic mat to catch runaway parts. Big Smile [:D]

I think nearly any color and height carpet can swallow small pieces. A few times I gave up only to find the piece literally staring right at me.

It seems like the moment you drop that part time just seems to stand still and your senses go into "hyper mode" looking and listening for the part to hit the floor [or your foot] esp. if you are working in the kitchen with linoleum or hardwood floors. Or maybe that's just me!LOL

I work in the kitchen with linoleum and have still had parts vanish when the hit the floor. Of coarse there have been a couple that I searched awhile for and my wife walk by and pick it right up.

The big difference between lost PE parts and lost carb parts is if you lose a PE part you just make a new one or skip it , if you just skip the carb spring , your car won't start or catches on fire ! Saw my father burn his 65 mustang to the ground with a carb rebuild one time !Big Smile [:D]

That reminds me of something I read in an old book that I think was by Art Linkletter. He was interviewing a little boy and the conversation went something like this:

ART LINKLETTER: Did your daddy ever try to fix anything?
LITTLE BOY: He tried to fix our car.
ART: And what happened?
LITTLE BOY: We had to get a new car.

Back to the subject at hand: I just moved to a new apartment and it has wall to wall tan carpet everywhere but the kitchen and bathroom. I'm dreading the first occasion where a part falls to the floor.

Those little suckers can bounce a good distance, too! I've found them quite a comparative ways from where I swore they'd be.

The vacuum idea is a good one. I use an old nylon stocking over the end of the vacuum hose and go over the carpet. Then clean out the ball of "stuff" that collects. I've found quite a few parts that way, but never one I didn't use the vacuum on in the first few minutes. I think they work their way into the nap and they are history. Maybe there's a black hole at the bottom of my carpet, and they hit that and teleport to one of your houses!!! Hmmm. Please look around for any of my missing parts and return any you may find!!Laugh [(-D]Mischief [:-,] LOL

I launched a part once. Was looking for long while for it on the floor. Ended up being snagged on my shirt. Misfire?

I was building my new Desert Hummer in the office last night and i dropped the mount to my .50 Cal!!!!!Banged Head [banghead]
That's the second .50 cal mount i have lost in the last two months! The first one was from my M-20 armoured car but I was able to replace it with a mount i had in the spares box left over from another Hummer build! i'll hunt for it again when i go back to work. i hope the cleaning people don't come in and vaccuum! Theres also an ammo can and several Hummer side marker lights in that carpet as well!
Ever heard of the kite-eating tree from the Charlie Brown cartoons? Well i have a "kit" eating carpet!Angry [:(!]

Monday night, I dropped a tan track link from my T55 onto the tan carpet and, woosh#8230;. Gone! I found it when I went up to the kitchen and stepped on the linoleum floor, OUCH, it was stuck in the bottom of my wool socks.

ever tried those "tweezer-launch free tweezers" ?
i saw them on FSM, some advertisement thing.
it says that it prevents those tweezer launch because it has some "sandpaper" tips that grabs even the smallest parts of a model.

haven't tried it though. i just use long-nosed electronics pliers.

With me having somewhat questionable eyesight, I have trained my kids to help me find the "AWOL" part by saying "OUTGOING FIRE".
