hi johan

as he said the red stuff is bondo. i use it all the time instead of squadron putty. it's cheaper and doesn't dry out. i have one of these at the paint stage. still have 5 months so it could be yet another SHELF QUEEN GB along with M4 mortar halftrack.

Well, I'm done building this one, and now, it only needs a few coats of paint, which should be in the next few weeks - months depending of work.

I scratched most of the tools and holders from styrene and aluminum strips.  I wanted to use workable clasps, and those molded on are sometimes difficult to remove without ruining the parts.

I added a strip of styrene to the nose plates to remove the gap I previously had.

The radio antenna was made with styrene rod.

The jack block had wood grain details on the top side only.  I simulated it on the sides with a rough nail file.

I also added some texture to the jack ground plate.  The wing nuts are from Bronco.

Close up of the armament:

If you guys notice that I missed something, let me know!

Comments welcomed as always.

Thanks for the info. I have got a few RB/Armourscale barrels. I got the tamiya Pz II A/B/C kit a couple of years ago and couldn't find any barrels for it. I guess i better check there site again. I have ordered direct from RB a few times, i will try that.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!  Big Smile

The barrels are from RB Model, from Poland.

http://www.rbmodel.com/index.php?action=products&cat=c_bm

I ordered a few barrels from a seller on E-Bay a few years back, and he was nice enough to include 2 MG34 barrels as bonus. Surprise

They are well detailled, and more important, not too expensive.  The 2cm KwK 30 L55 was close to $5 USD if I recall.

SnakeEyes -  I wil probably end up painting it German Grey, as I am depicting an early war vehicle.  The exhaust cover was included in the kit, the chains are from an Aber set, the workable tool clamp (more to be added) is from Lion Roar.  The rest of the metal tidbits for the tools will be scratched.  They fell off while I had this one in limbo...

Jord - That gap really bothered me.  I could not get a clearer picture of it, but I think it would have been too visible once painted.  From what I could find in my reference and looking at pics from the Ausf. C in the War Museum in Ottawa, the front nose panel is sometimes flush with, or higher than the hull's.

Rob - The Panther is on the shelf for now.  I'm waiting for better weather to clear up the basement before I paint anything.  I have a few other kits to paint before, which should get me back in the game before I finish her Wink  I have been around for a little while, but took a little break from the forums during the last couple of years.  As for the sleeve, I seem to remember that the fit of the barrel was terrible without it, due to the kit's engineering.  Someone on another forum solved the issue, which I also did for mine.  However, I don't remember his name to give him proper credit for his idea... Embarrassed  There was moulded on bolts on the suspension, but it was easier for me to replace them instead of trimming around.

Johan - The redish stuff is Bondo's Glazing and Spot Putty, just to fill in the seams.  Works great and inexpensive.

Nice to see you back building again Jean-Michael, the Tamiya Pz IIs build up nicely, I'm sure you'll have no trouble fixing that little nose issue. Smile

What happened with the Panther, she was looking fantastic?  Sorry to say, don't believe I have seen your work before but from what I've seen so far it appears I have missed out.  Have a feeling and from your work here,  you have quit an eye for detail.  The Pz II is nice, clean and I like the added bolts on the suspension.  I too like that barrel Yes  Did the AM barrel not fit properly into the kit and that is why you put the styrene sleeve on, were it protrudes through the mantle or is that just another added correction to the detail?  Your solution for the glacis should work just fine.  Really look forward to your next update.

I think you have a great looking PzKpfw II there.
I would not worry to much about the gap, the weld beads are very prominent on the II and they are sort of floating on top of the join.

Looks like it will end up really cool, Gun Tech. How are you going to end up painting it? And where did you get those metal aftermarket parts?

Panzer II Ausf.C WIP UPDATED 17 Jul 2012
Posted by Gun Tech on Sunday, April 15, 2012 12:29 AM

This should be a short WIP.  I started this little guy a while ago, maybe even before the Panther  D:

/forums/t/146289.aspx

It's Tamiya's Panzer II (French Campaign), kit  # 35292, a really nice kit, which I was determined to build OOB, but I got carried away once again.... Stick out tongue

While waiting for the summer to arrive to clean up the basement and start painting a few kits, I decided to finalise this one.  I can't recall too much about the construction, since it's been so long, but I do recall putting it aside for a little fitting issue, which I will show below.

Did you see it??  The fit of the nose panels is off.  I noticed it really late in the construction, which made me put the kit away a couple years ago...   I just noticed it again 3 days ago after forgeting about it......

Should be easily resolved by gluing a thin strip of styrene and carefully trimming it to size....  I wonder why I didn't think of it back then! Oops

I will have to be extra careful with those fenders and towing hooks of course....

Thanks for looking!
