New to modeling again
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, February 6, 2004 8:38 PM

Back to modeling after a long hiatus.
Partial to those strange WW1 tanks & bought an EMHAR "whippet" tank.
Treads are not great looking black "vinyl", what do I glue & paint them with?
Any after market treads available?, box pics show them like plates.
Thanks!

First of all ..... welcome to FSM morstuf5 and an even bigger welcome back to modelling.

As for your whippet, I've never built one but this is how I would paint the tracks.
First an overall coat of gunmetal followed by successive drybrushings of rust then silver. Next I would burnish them with ground pencil lead. Finally I would dust them with pastel chalks along with the rest of the vehicle.

As for gluing them, CA glue should work just fine.

Enjoy the forums !!!

Welcome to the Dark Side morstuf5. I'm just not familiar with WW I tanks, but good luck.

What's CA glue?

CA Glue is Cyanoacryalte glue. AKA super glue or Crazy Glue.

The most known variety for model building is a product named Zap-A-Gap. Medium formula is probably your best place to start. Do be careful with CA though, it does tend to glue finger tips together if you're not careful.

Welcome Morstuf5, I built Emhar's Mark IV and it came with pretty lame vinyl tracks that were in 4 pieces as I recall. I used super glue to hold them together and a little more hold them in place. Robert's idea for paint and weather should work very well though.
