Wiking Division Using Panther D
Posted by Tankluver on Thursday, April 19, 2012 8:43 AM

I am reading the Book, Wiking Panzer, and while looking at some of the pictures in the later part of the book, it looks as if the Wiking was using Panther D's, the only reason I say this is because the MG port was covered up like how a Panther D's would be. Is this true, also I was alos reading another article in WWII History magazine about the retaking of the Balaton lake area, and again I saw a Picture of what looked to be a Panther D, but it looked like it was from the battle of Kowel, because the street looked like the one form the German Newsreel.
Does anyone know if any of what I am wondering is true? Thanks guys!

Early Panther ausf A also had the MG port like  D did.  That is not a certain way to determine the variant of the Panther.

Look at the cupola style...that's one way to tell a D from an early A. If it has the "drum" style, it's a D.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the captioning of pictures in "WWII History magazine " to be blunt.

Ahhh I see, thank you very much, I always told a Panther D from anything else because usually they didnt have the MG port.
