Can I use these parts on my Hybrid StuG III C/D 1945?

Hi guys,

My Friuls and RB barrel arrived this morning from Armour Models for use on my new wip 1945 StuG C/D.

Seeing as the StuG is a 1945 cut and shut Hybrid I thought I'd be clever (never again) and order some late type Friuls ATL-05 that are marked 'in use 1942/1945' but when I opened them the had a solid guide horn? Not what I was planning on but what the hey?

Also the barrel is the RB 35B05 (7.5cm StuK 40 L/48) - I thought I'd ordered the barrel with the circular muzzle brake but this has the oval shape brake?

What I'm thinking is this - this StuG is an arrangement of all types of track and early StuG parts mated with a late Saukopf Mantlet and 'G' barrel.

Can it just quite possibly be feasible that these tracks and barrel will be okay to use.

I'll swap them I have to but I have them now and it's hassle! I will do if what I have just won't work though!

Please let me know chaps!

Ben thumbs up

Ben,

The tracks are fine...solid guide horns were in wide-spread use (and appear simultaneously with hollow guide horns as well) from 1943 onward. They can work for you but you'd be better off accuracy-wise with ATL-27 since those have the chevron-cleat faces.

You're also fine with your choice of barrel and muzzle brake as that style was in use until very late '44 (October-November) when the full circular brake began to appear, so it's quite possible for it to still be around in '45.

Hey Bill,

That's a big relief matey, thanks for that! The tracks look nice and will definately bring a different look to the cabinet as all my Friuls on my Pz and StuG III's have open horns!

Righto, onwards and upwards!

Thanks again,

Ben Toast

Hello chaps,

I've been looking into the barrel a bit more and although I have found the one that the kit comes with StuG III G Final (RB 35B89) I've looked at the photo below and am pretty sure that this StuG does not have this muzzle brake! It looks like a middle version that I've got with the oval shape (RB 35B05), not the full rounded late type?

Can someone confirm this? This photo is apparently what this kit is based on - right down to the numbering on the Casemate (123):

What do you reckon - I'd be very interested to hear what you think is on this StuG here?

Cheers guys,

Ben Toast
