Thank you all for the help, I am trying to get together the figure and vehicles together to start a diorama, its going to be around the outskirts of Warsaw where the Russians are attacking and the Viking and HG are holding positions with anti tank weapons.

On another note, I remember reading in Otto Carius book "Tigers in the Mud" that he witnessed Luftwaffe troops with brand new equipment get over ran, I suspect he was talking about a field division right?

MECHTECH

Actually Bish, there was fighting in Warsaw in 1944, in which the Fallschirm-Panzer-Division HG was involved. In the fighting at the Weichsel Bend on Aug 3 1944, the III Soviet tank corps were defeated. Generaloberst Model stated in orders that it was thanks to the efforts of F-P-D HG that Warsaw could be held one more time.

I could find nothing about the Sdkz 215/22.

My references are from "The HG Panzer Division" by Alfred Otte published by Schiffer Military.

I never realised that the HG were at Warsaw. But i was pointing out that the /22 didn't enter service until some months after that battle.

But thanks for the info.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

The /22 didn't enter service until Dec 44, so it wouldn't have been in Warsaw. Don't rely on kit markings to much, they are not always accurate.

bultenibo, interesting info. I have been trying to dcide which Div to assign my /22 to. That list will be a great help.

Hi Tankluver:

There was a huge discussion on Network54 reagrding which units used the Sd.kfz 251/22, and in the end they compiled a list. According to that list - consisting of confirmed units -threre are NO indications that  Fsch.Pz.Div. HG did use the vehicle.

Here's the full list and URL:

On average some 4 - 8 such vehicles in use per division, some had more some had less.

First division to actually report Sd.Kfz. 251/22 on hand was Pz.Gren.Div. GD on 30.12.1944.
Best equipped division was 19. Pz.Div. with 11 in 4./Pz.Gren.Rgt. 74, 4 in 4./Pz.A.A. 19 and 4 in 3./Pz.Pi.Btl. 19!

As far as I can tell no Sd.Kfz. 251/22 were issued to any independent 'Heerestruppen' units.

Hermann Goering Division sdkfz 251/22

Does anyone have any reference material pertaining to the Hermann Goering divison fallschirm-panzer corp using sdkfz 251/22 D's in the warsaw area. I would like to believe they did because it was a unit that got out fitted with new equipment and the fact that the Russians had a lot of tanks makes me think that this would be something good to have. Yet does anyone know for a fact that they did?
