Tank tracks were not primed or painted. The paint would soon come off. Brand new AFV tracks come with a black tar like substance on them which helps prevent rusting. I believe this was also done in WW2. I know people have difefrent methods, but i start my track paiting with tamiya Metalic Grey.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Have not built much armor, but working on an Italeri Tiger.  I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the tracks were typically only primed, not painted.

My previous effort at painting/weathering tracks was pretty dismal Smile  If these were only primed, then I would want to start with a base of primer red, and work on some wear and tear from there correct?
