Color dirt Afghanistan

Thanks to all for your helpful hints. I like sand and raw sienna idea.

The region I was in had a lightish brown tint in the summer and darker in the winter when the snow melted, some guys had  really dark brown, others even had orangish red sand.   On the Brad I just built I achieved the effect I wanted with a tamiya weather kit with the sand, and dry brushing some model master raw sienna. 

Just google US army equipment in A'stan.  It's not as if there's not lots of journalistic coverage of the ongoing war. I'm sure you'll get lots of great hits.  Good luck

Since Afghanistan is a fairly large country, I suspected the dirt would be different in different areas. But orangish is a good answer. Thanks.

Kind of depends on what region of the counry your looking to replicate, but i guess the higher percentage would be a orangish looking color.
