Last purchase for awhile
Posted by PANZERWAFFE on Saturday, May 5, 2012 6:22 PM

Just received a box at the door and this is what was inside of it.

Will be the last purchase for awhile due to moving.  Hope to get things set up quickly at my new place and return both to some more purchases and to WIP's on the forum.

Good luck with the move Rob, that's always a fun exercise. Nice additions to the stash to hold you over until you're settled in! Wink

Thanks Bill......there's nothing like moving Tongue Tied  Holding me over was the excuse I used with my better half to get these last 2  LOL  The truth is, just could not pass them up, Dragon was having 50% off sale and picked both of them up for the price of 1 Yes

ERIC - The little Pz II does seem pretty nice.  It has full hull and turret interior, lots of options, PE and details on the outside.  I did already have the old Tamiya Pz II, it was my first build returning to the hobby, but did not really like it and it now sits in a drawer as a parts donor.  So I needed this one to fill the gap.

My goal is to eventually have at least one example of all armor if that ever happens will then go back and start getting all the variants.  Of course there are always a few "I got to get that one" buys in between this process.  Almost have the Germans covered just need to find which kit of a good Panther and Tiger to get then will move on to the other countries to do the same.

BILL212 - Hey buddy Drinks Thanks.  During my time off from the bench I do a lot of research and such preparing for the return to the bench to pass the time, when I have it.  Hope to have some good plans for when I return so I'll be back as soon as possible with some new WIP's.

CARL - I too have looked at that Pz.Sfl. IV B for some time.  Have not opened it yet and will not do so until at my new place unless you are thinking about getting one soon.  If so I will open and take some pictures of the parts for you and try to give you a quick run through.  Just looking at the contents thats printed on the box, it looks awesome!  Looks like it has everything in it for an interior and being an open topped vehicle it should show really well.  Plus I have always liked the lines / shape of this vehicle.  It may be at the top of my list for the next future build Wink

A Panther and Tiger eh? Of course you can't go wrong with Dragon. I have the Panther G smart kit and it's kind of their definitive Panther. They have not released an A smart kit yet, but the Premium edition comes with lots of PE, magic tracks and the such.

For Tigers, there was the first Late which was a super kit with gobs of PE, etc.

Of course there are pre-zimmed versions of both.

PLASTICK J - Thanks !  Good to hear you made your move and things are back to normal Yes  I have a total of 7 states from beginning to end to get through.

TOJO - Have made a few moves with mt builds the last ones being rather successful.  Just takes a lot of very careful packing.  I use some old footlockers and a few large ammo crates to pack in.  Inside of these, I build or use individual boxes or just use dividers for each model and fill them with packing peanuts.  In the past only things such as antennas were broken and all was fixed leaving no noticeable damages.  Hope that this move will be as successful.  I'll try to get some packing pictures together and post when I get to that point.  I only have to worry with packing 35 individual 1/35 completed armored vehicles, 6 full dioramas, 2 1/72 scale ships, 1 1/16 tank, and 9 large wooden scale aircraft.  There is also of course the stash to worry with but that should be much easier.

BISH - Thanks for the wishes.  Hope your move also goes well Yes  Is there a worst thing for modelers than moving? Tongue Tied

ERIC - Yes, will probably be a Dragon kit I get for the Panther and Tiger.  That Panther G smart kit sounds good, will look into it.  What's the kit # for it?

Rob, it's kit number #6268. I also have the Cyber Hobby Panther F #6406. It's a smart kit too. Looks really cool and comes with correct all-steel wheels, but might have the rubber as well, even though the production version was supposed to be all-steel. Maybe the prototype had rubber.

Thanks Eric Yes  Will look at both of those kits maybe one of them will be my First purchase at my new place.  Not sure about the wheels rubber vs steel, will see if I can find out in some of my reading.

PANZERWAFFE,

The Panzer II is a nice kit.

Heads up!  My lower and upper hulls were a challenge fitting together.  I chose to build mine without the interior.  Doing so may correct the problem I had with the side walls bending in.  Plastic sprue cut to push out the lower hull walls a bit solved the issue.

I caught it only after a bit of unintended battle damage . . . but the darned damage looks good!

Nice Pz II set!  Sometimes it is nice to take a break and build those small panzers like I did with my Panzer I Ausf A a year ago.  I have DML #6572 Pz II Ausf B and I think it has full interior.  Maybe we can do Panzer I & II GB one day. LOL  Always enjoy doing GBs with you guys... Toast

Carl, thanks for the heads up on the Pz II Yes  I will defiantly keep an eye on that portion of construction.  Good to hear that this is a good kit.  Would love to see a pic of yours if you have one.  Thanks again Beer

Andy - I need to take a break from the small early Panzers and build some big cats.  Almost all my German tanks are the early small ones, I really like the pre-war and early war vehicles.  OH Boy...another GB Big Smile

I didn't meant now... I dig the big cats GB as we have been talking about this lately only if it starts in the fall.  I am swamped and behind now as you can tell. LOL

Not at the moment. I might be able to rig something in the shed, but its damn cold and very dusty. But i am sure i will sort something. I am looking at buying a very large shed for the back garden. That or an extension.

I have no choice, i am out of the Army in Oct and currently in barrack accomadation. The good thing is i will be moving everythiung myself. So if anything gets broke, i only have myself to blame.

PANZERWAFFE,

I'll see what I can do about posting some photos.  Never done it before.  It's the first armor kit completed in about 40 years so there really is no compelling urgency to post my modest skills.

In the mean time, this link will help.

http://www.militarymodelling.com/forums/postings.asp?th=21018&p=1

Pay close attention to what he writes.  You know the poor reputation of Dragon's instructions.  Read through his details and then read them again.  Make sure they're handy during the build.  His write-up is well detailed and accurate.  Even having them readily available there were still traps he mentioned that still got me.

So you know, I used Friul links for the track.  They're tedious to put together, but much better in looks and fit than the Magic Track.  Oh, and expensive.

Hope the link will help you.

CYSUSN - Thanks again for the heads up with the issues and thanks for the link.  For picture posting just get yourself a photo account such as photo bucket, load your pictures onto there, then from there copy the image code and paste here on your post.   And yes those Friul tracks can be fun but I am also a fan of Magic Tracks.

SHELL - Sounds like your a groupie
