17pdr SPG 'Archer'
Posted by spacepacker on Sunday, May 13, 2012 9:12 AM

Bronco's 17pdr SPG 'Archer'

There is a lot of these

And I lost a lot of them, the PE in this kit is not difficult to fold. It's when I try to pick them up to glue to the model is when when they go 'Ping'; and so, there are more of these residing in the carpet than there are on the modelEmbarrassed

Next up are some internal parts but these won't be seen when the hatches are on, so I left them out

The Gun and carriage is quite straight forward

I paint with a brush and I often build ,paint, build as I go along

So to the model itself,

Wow I've never done such a large post, hope its not too much.

All the while I was building this model, I kept thinking of a childhood book 'Dr Doolittle' in which there is a creature called " Pushmi-Pullyu " you could not tell which way it was going!.

So it is with this SPG, when it's going forward it looks as if it's going backwards and when it's going backwards it looks as if it's going forwards!!!!!Confused.

Finally, I think this is finished but your comments, advice and tips would be welcome...cheers....Kenny

You've certainly been busy Kenny! Very nice work on the Archer, love the details you've achieved on the fighting compartment. Have to agree with you about the odd character of this vehicle...in terms of the front being the rear and vice versa....but I'm sure the crew appreciated the ability to skedaddle in a hurry out of an ambush position when needed! Your work inspires me, Kenny  I hope someday to achieve your level of realism, right down to surface marring around the sten guns!  You've shown me that painting during the build is  where I should go next.

Are you attaching painted assmblies with CA or plasitc cement?

That's some really fine work Kenny. I haven't seen one built up. Extra kudos for all the nice PE work as well. I'll bet those tracks were a bear to put together if they are anything like my Hotchkiss.

Bill, always a pleasure to have your comments.

I have just been looking at your Bison, super job as usual!. cheers

dood dood, thank you for your comments, with regards to gluing after painting; I scratch a small area back to the plastic and use plastic glue. With care it works very well, maybe a little touch-up.

Tigerman, nice to hear from you with your kind remarks. The tracks were easy to assemble but then, during further handling I kept breaking them re-gluing then breaking in the end I used ca glue.I'm just clumsy I guess.

Regards the p.e, if I am to become involved with that stuff I will have to invest in some tools other than tweezers and pliers.

Great work there! I appreciate all the work involved in those tiny tread links and PE. Great job on the weathering too. Cool

I've always liked the design, seems like being able to fire and then speed off makes more sense than having to back up and turn around.
