Dragon Initial Production Tiger I question.
Posted by kitbashn82 on Friday, June 1, 2012 9:17 PM

On Dragons Initial Production Tiger I (can't remember the kit number but it's the smart kit 3 in 1) how much of the radiators and cooling fans can be seen after the all the photo etch grille vents have been added?? Long story short the dog got a hold of one of my radiator assemblies.

Thanks

I can't answer with conviction Don, but I would say not much. There is the grill and under that is the opening which is covered up for the most part. If the grills are finer mesh, I'd really say not much.

Thanks, I'll have to double check the mesh size when I get home, I don't think its the same size as the mesh in my Feb 44 production kit (but I could be wrong)

They can vary from brand to brand. Some are more open then others, but most Tigers I've seen are finer.

Hi DBoger,
I would not worry but paint the interior flat black.
The Tamiya late doesn't even include the fuel tanks or radiator/fans. Or the etched grills.
If it is just the basic structure (J11/12) you could always try to replicate it with plastic card.
Dragon #6252 did not include the etched grills but 6600 does.
I guess it is there to allow you to detail the engine bay or leave the radiator covers open.

Good luck with the Holy Grail - it is a marvellous kit :)

Very Best Regards

Johan

I have the 6600 (top pic), and 6650 (bottom pic) both kits have the photo etched grilles, so it looks like I'm safe then. Thanks!

Hi DBoger,

I recently built this superb kit and although I had no intention of showing the radiator grilles open I assembled the radiators along with the PE surrounds and fitted them just to get some PE practice more than anything!

Trust me - you won't see it whatsover, here's the best overhead shot of my build that I have:

I hope this put's your mind at rest buddy!

All the best,

Ben Toast
