Yes Bish, that one came out in 2009,but it is a really fine kit, lotsa PE,metal barrel, and really good assembly.
This is the one i am reffering to. But looking at the kit number, i think i may have jumped the gun a bit. My guess is this is an older kit coming back into stock.. Chris, is this the one you have.

Bish, I thought Dragon was releasing a "Kursk Ferdy"? If so, then no zimmerit.

Bish No problem. I am going to wait and see as well. I'm not sure if this Dragon release is simply their old kit with the Zimm added. If it is, then the Tamiya kit will have to be somthing special for me to get that rather than the un zimmed Dragon Elefant. But, we will see.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Dragon has released a 1/35 Elefant w/ Zimmerit. I have one in my stash.

Ye, but there is a new Dragon release coming out as well, with Zimm. thats what i gave a price comparison to in an earlier post.
tigerman Looking forward to a review on it.

Ditto Tigerman, Ditto!
I'm really liking this! My cabinet needs another big German piece and this looks great. I'd have to replace the barrel and fit Friuls or MK's but I do that with most builds anyway. The simplicity of the Tamiya kits is what appeals - after this Dragon Firefly I'll need something simple BUT I fear that this will be an expensive new kit (at least as expensive as the Dragon version) which has been the norm with Tamiya lately
The Zim kit looks good - I hope they start to release Zim Kits for their Tigers and Sturmtiger too.
This is one I'll definately be looking into - maybe this is potential Christmas or Birthday present fodder!
Cheers Bish!

Cheers Tojo. I guess we will soon see.
Bish,on the newer JSU-152 and Jagdtiger, they used link and length tracks like on their 1/48 armor. On the new Isherman they used gluable rubber tracks similar to Dragon DS,so it's any bodies guess.
Manstein's revenge Bish: I was a bit skeptical when you said it would cost more than the dragon kit. generally speaking the tamiya kits are cheaper. So i checked Hannants and your right. It has both kits on Future release is 55.99 while the tamiya is 57.99. Given the extra detail Dragon usually has over tamiya, i think the tamiya offering will have to be something special. to compete. Keep in mind that the zimm set will probably be sold separately for another 20 dollars or so...that will push the Tamiya offering even more above in cost to the pre-zimmed Dragon kit...

I do my own useing Milliput, so that won't be an issue for me. What will make a difference is what type of tracks they are are the barrel. If i need to replace them then that will put the price up for me.
Although I prefer Tamiya to Dragon, the Dragon Elefant w/ Zimmerit is indeed an awesome kit. I'm glad I found one and bought it last year.
I built the older Dragon kit and had to pop an extra $20 for the zimmerit, so keep that cost in mind. Granted you can pick up the older kit on ebay for about $20, plus shipping, so you're still looking at $50 in the end, unless you do your own zimmerit. Or, you could probably spend about $50 or less and get the pre-zimmed Dragon kit with the bells and whistles.

Tojo72 My thought is that it will probably be a good fitting, nice kit to build, like their recent Jagdtiger and JSU-152,but it will cost more and have less features then Dragon's Elefant with molded zim, that is a good kit that would be hard to beat.

That's generally the niche Tamiya fills though; a nice building kit that is not a chore to complete. Dragon kits are superb, highly detailed, fiddly fitting, often multi media affairs that are normally quite involved builds.
Tamiya kits are often "box shakers" with superior engineering and ease of construction. Detail is more sparse than a Dragon kit, but adequate. Measurements and outline are normally spot on. If you didn't paint a Tamiya kit, you could probably start one in the morning and finish it up by dinner.
Personally i am not a fan of molded on Zimm, so i guess i will wait and see if Dragon produce an un Zimmed kit.
Not sure if this is news to anyone else. This is the new tamiya Elefant. If i remember correctly, Tamiya haven't released one of thse before. And they are also releaseing a seperate Zimm set for it, i like that idea.
